PURPOSE OF POSITION: Reporting directly to the CEO, the primary objective of the Chief 

Development Officer (CDO) is to increase revenue in a strategic manner that drives the mission 

of the United Way of Forsyth County. The CDO will lead the development and implementation 

of fundraising strategies that ensure organizational capacity to deliver on the ambitious goals of 

our strategic plan. The CDO ensures the effective execution and growth of the organization’s 

revenue generation through the engagement of donors and volunteers and the coordination of 

executive volunteer and staff efforts related to revenue generation activities. The CDO will 

work collaboratively with the Chief Marketing Officer who will lead planning and execution of 

all major events. 
 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 
 

1. Leads the organization’s revenue generation efforts. Responsible for generating a 

long-term strategic growth vision and developing and executing Board of Directors 

strategic plan in relation to revenue generation. The CDO is responsible for:

f. Social enterprise revenue 
 

3. In concert with the CEO – recruits, trains, and directs Board level and executive 
 level fundraising volunteers. 

 
4. Recruit, develop, inspire, and lead the resource development staff team. 


5.Accountable for revenue growth on an annual and multi-year basis. 


6. Leads the organization’s efforts to maintain an effective and efficient donor database. 


 7. Ensures the organization maintains proper fundraising ethics. 


 8. Works closely with the workplace giving team to recruit, train, inspire and manage 

 workplace volunteers. 


 9. In coordination with the Leadership Team, is an integral part of the organization’s 

 externally facing strategy. Maintains quality year-round relationships with donors, 

 corporations, foundations, and vendors. 


 10. In concert with the CEO and Director of Strategic Communications and Public

They will manage a portfolio of prospects, current and lapsed donors, targeting five- and six-figure gifts. The Major Gifts Officer is responsible for developing, planning, and implementing strategies for identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of individual donors to include support for Alexis de Tocqueville Society and other related programs to support United Way NCA. They will focus on strategically building and expanding the organization's Individual Giving and Planned Giving program with a goal of significantly increasing the base of annual gifts.&nbsp;This position is ideal for a dynamic, results and relationship-driven, well-organized development professional who is committed to United Way NCA’s mission and has a passion for building development/fundraising programs.The Major Gifts Officer is responsible for maintaining and increasing annual revenue through the development, implementation and management of comprehensive major gifts moves management plan. Internally this position will work closely with SVP and cross functionally to leverage and enhance donor and prospect engagement to inspire deeper connection to the mission and programs of United Way NCA.Key Responsibilities:&nbsp;The Major Gifts Officer will work closely with the Chief Development Officer (CDO) and Development/Fundraising Team to build, implement, grow, and maintain long-term cross-functional strategic plans focused on immediate, near-term, and long-term major and planned gifts.1) Secures a minimum of 120 donor meetings/visits per year; 2) Collaborates with colleagues across UW NCA to understand the case for support and inspire donors up the giving pyramid; 3) Actively practices moves management through the donor life cycle of identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship; 4) Documents all donor related activities using the donor database Andar; 5) Assists in all cultivation and stewardship for UW NCA events&nbsp;Portfolio Management<ul><li>Secure Major gifts at the five- and six-figure levels. Directly responsible for identifying, cultivating, and soliciting prospects for major and planned gifts of all varieties. While there is some portfolio in place, there will be significant portfolio development required in the first year to reach an expected 125-150 prospect portfolio size.</li><li>Responsible for $1M in annual revenue from cash, pledges, and documented planned gifts designated to United Way NCA.</li><li>Establish and maintain a qualified fundraising pipeline/prospects, focused on achieving stretch goals to support enhanced revenue streams.</li><li>Manage systems and software to track and cultivate donors and prospects, including United Way NCA’s donor database and wealth screening tools.</li><li>Work with the Development/Fundraising department to align efforts and set goals. Create and implement moves management plans.</li><li>Make direct, face-to-face solicitations and work with program staff to develop individualized donor strategies; to include donor communications.</li><li>Acknowledge major donors through public and private recognition. Track and report progress using specific metrics.</li></ul>Job Requirements:&nbsp;Solid Educational Background and Experience -&nbsp;Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, or equivalent experience is required. Minimum eight (8) years of fundraising experience, with demonstrated experience in Major and Planned Gifts moves management and relationship building including at least five years of front-line fundraising and working with individual donors.&nbsp;Drives Revenue &amp; Impact –&nbsp;Results driven, with a relentless focus on gaining resources to support United Way’s mission and community impact focused strategic objectives. Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, this role supervises four (4) team members, who manage their own corporate partner portfolios. Together, the entire team identifies, cultivates, solicits, and stewards corporate donors, as well as manages a robust workplace giving program. The Director of Corporate Partnerships will partner closely with individual giving members alongside grants to strategically grow and diversify fundraising revenue at United Way NCA, with particular focus on increasing corporate support and partnership activations, as well as converting passthrough workplace campaign donors.Key Responsibilities: The Director, Corporate Partnerships&nbsp;will:<ul><li>Lead the immediate, near-term, and long-term strategic planning, implementation, growth, and maintenance of a robust Corporate Partnerships Program and Team.</li><li>Lead and manage a highly collaborative team in all identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship efforts with Corporate and workplace campaign prospects and donors.&nbsp;</li><li>Support the CEO, CDO, and Board of Directors in their corporate engagement efforts.</li><li>Manage and report on Corporate Partnerships expense and revenue budget.</li><li>Meet and/or exceed annual revenue goals.&nbsp;</li><li>Meet the minimum annual fundraising growth goals.&nbsp;</li><li>Track, and report on Corporate Partnerships Team’s progress, utilizing established key performance indicators (KPIs).</li><li>In collaboration with Individual Giving, ensure workplace campaign donors who have membership in the Tocqueville Society (United Way’s major giving society) and/or affinity groups (Regional Advisory Council, Women United, and NextGen United) are stewarded appropriately.</li><li>Monitor and institute corporate partnerships best practices in operations, such as workplace campaign administration, CRM utilization, prospect research, acknowledgments, and reporting.</li><li>Work closely with the Marketing and Communications Department to coordinate communication strategies for corporate partners.&nbsp;</li><li>Work closely with the Community Impact Division and the Grants Team to identify the best opportunities to align with the Corporate Partner’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives and engage corporate employee volunteerism.</li><li>Coach and train the Development Team for increasingly complex and new corporate opportunities to include sponsorships, point of sale campaigns, cause-related marketing, etc.</li><li>Create and drive a culture of philanthropy across all fundraising areas that contribute to the entire Development Team’s goals.</li></ul>Manage a portfolio of Corporate Partners:<ul><li>Serve as the primary relationship manager in identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of 20 – 40 Corporate Partners with the capacity to support at the $25,000+ level on an annual basis.</li><li>Secure new corporate partnerships and activations.&nbsp;</li><li>Document all portfolio-related activities using the donor database Andar.</li><li>Supervise front-line team who manage a portfolio of a minimum forty corporate partners each and lead on workplace campaign and partnerships.&nbsp;</li><li>Other duties as assigned.</li></ul>Key Performance Indicators: All front-line fundraisers at United Way NCA are expected to meet annual KPIs. Fundraising performance is measured annually by the following, with specific goals based on leadership level role and portfolio makeup which includes:<ul><li>Face-to-face meetings,</li><li>Moves actions completed,</li><li>Solicitations,</li><li>Gifts/Partnerships/Activations secured,</li><li>Total dollars raised,</li><li>Number of new, retained, and upgraded partners, and</li><li>Collaborative gifts closed.</li></ul>Requirements:Educational Background&nbsp;&amp;&nbsp;Experience<ul><li>Bachelor’s degree preferred.&nbsp; A High School Diploma (or GED) with equivalent related work experience is required.&nbsp;</li><li>Minimum seven (7) years of fundraising experience, with experience in corporate partnership, and a proven record of accomplishment of securing complex corporate partnerships valued at six-figures-plus.
