Objectives &amp; Expectations: 
The Mobility Mentor will work in partnership with individuals through coaching, preparing and encouraging them on their 

journey toward self-sufficiency through goal setting. They will demonstrate an understanding of the issues, community 

needs, and existing systems of care related to the ALICE population. Mobility Mentoring is defined as the professional 

practice of partnering with individuals so that over time they may acquire the resources, skills, and sustained behavior 

changes necessary to attain and preserve their economic independence. Mobility Mentors coach individuals in setting 

priorities, developing action plans, honoring commitments, connecting to resources, and achieving goals. Candidates 

must be customer focused; data driven, organized, and results oriented. This position is based in Norfolk, and the mentor 

must be able to work a flexible schedule that includes evenings and/or weekends to meet individual’s needs. Successful 

candidates will have a strong ability to communicate effectively, build relationships and educate stakeholders on the 

needs of the ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) population. Experience implementing motivational 

interviewing and trauma-informed practices is preferred.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following: 
 • Provide direct coaching/mentoring by carrying a full caseload of up to thirty individuals per year 

 • Identify the strengths of participants and support individuals in overcoming barriers through problem solving. 

 • Assist participants in setting goals related to family and personal well-being, career, education, housing and family 
finances while breaking down goals into manageable steps recognizing barriers to self-sufficiency that are multi-

faceted. 

 • Thorough documentation of coaching activities in an objective, detailed, and timely manner 

 • Accurate tracking and reporting of demographic information and data regarding individual assessment, goal setting, 
goal achievement, and referrals within specified guidelines. 

 • Serve as a resource for the individual and family on issues including housing, budgeting, career and education, 
childcare, health care, and more 


 • Maintain a working knowledge of community resources and advocacy to initiate and coordinate service delivery and 
follow-up. 

 • Meet with individuals at times and locations that meet their needs. Majority of meetings will be at participant homes 
or out in the community. 

 • Establish collaborative partnerships with other public and private agencies/services, and establish ongoing 
connections, resources and support for participants 

 • With the support of lead mentors, plan, organize and facilitate workshops and community groups around educational 
topics and peer support 


 • Assist in recruitment of participants and marketing in Norfolk 

 • Serve as an extension and representative of UWSHR in all work related to NFKThrive 

 • Attend partnership engagement opportunities throughout the grant period, share and monitor progress, and foster

Key Skills Requirements: 

 • Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience 

 • A minimum of two years of experience in human services programs requiring direct client interactions required 

 • Ability to pass a criminal background check 

 • Valid driver’s license, acceptable driving record, current auto insurance and personal vehicle or access to personal 
transportation for travel throughout community

They will focus on strategically building and expanding the organization's Individual Giving and Planned Giving program with a goal of significantly increasing the base of annual gifts.&nbsp;This position is ideal for a dynamic, results and relationship-driven, well-organized development professional who is committed to United Way NCA’s mission and has a passion for building development/fundraising programs.The Major Gifts Officer is responsible for maintaining and increasing annual revenue through the development, implementation and management of comprehensive major gifts moves management plan. Internally this position will work closely with SVP and cross functionally to leverage and enhance donor and prospect engagement to inspire deeper connection to the mission and programs of United Way NCA.Key Responsibilities:&nbsp;The Major Gifts Officer will work closely with the Chief Development Officer (CDO) and Development/Fundraising Team to build, implement, grow, and maintain long-term cross-functional strategic plans focused on immediate, near-term, and long-term major and planned gifts.1) Secures a minimum of 120 donor meetings/visits per year; 2) Collaborates with colleagues across UW NCA to understand the case for support and inspire donors up the giving pyramid; 3) Actively practices moves management through the donor life cycle of identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship; 4) Documents all donor related activities using the donor database Andar; 5) Assists in all cultivation and stewardship for UW NCA events&nbsp;Portfolio Management<ul><li>Secure Major gifts at the five- and six-figure levels. Directly responsible for identifying, cultivating, and soliciting prospects for major and planned gifts of all varieties. While there is some portfolio in place, there will be significant portfolio development required in the first year to reach an expected 125-150 prospect portfolio size.</li><li>Responsible for $1M in annual revenue from cash, pledges, and documented planned gifts designated to United Way NCA.</li><li>Establish and maintain a qualified fundraising pipeline/prospects, focused on achieving stretch goals to support enhanced revenue streams.</li><li>Manage systems and software to track and cultivate donors and prospects, including United Way NCA’s donor database and wealth screening tools.</li><li>Work with the Development/Fundraising department to align efforts and set goals.
