United Way plans to exceed these accomplishments during the upcoming 2024-25 tax season and is hiring up to 25 Tax Site Managers to achieve this goal.&nbsp;As a Tax Site Manager for the Free Tax Preparation Campaign, you will oversee the daily operations of one or more in-person tax site(s) at least two shifts each week. You will provide coordination, organization, and supervision for tax preparation, including overseeing team assignments, providing guidance and mentorship during designated shifts, answering tax preparation questions, supporting volunteers, troubleshooting issues, and elevating challenges. We are seeking individuals with strong customer service experience, especially with low-income clients. Preference for applicants with a high degree of flexibility and adaptability, strong attention to detail, and the capability to manage the volunteers in dynamic environments.&nbsp;This position is a temporary, time-limited role, lasting from November 16, 2024, until April 30, 2025. About the Position 

Provide hands-on, community-based services to remove barriers to seeking assistance. 
This position is responsible for answering incoming calls, walk-ins, chat and text platforms, in 
addition to collecting client information and demographics. An emphasis on quality customer 
service skills and accurate data recording is essential. 

Accountability: Director, PA 2-1-1 East 

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES INCLUDE: 

 • Provide short -term case management services to identify needs and help to stabilize 
families. 

 • Respond to client concerns via inbound phone calls and/or walk-ins, with an 
appropriate tone of voice, paying close attention to voice inflection and volume. 

 • Maintain a non-judgmental attitude when speaking with callers, displaying sensitivity to all 
cultural backgrounds. 

 • Assessing caller needs and facilitating appropriate referrals for families and individuals 
seeking health and human service information. 

 • Accessing the 2-1-1 database for resources and appropriately refer callers.

 Job Title: Information &amp; Referral Specialist Reporting To: Client Services Manager 

 Department: Contact Center, 2-1-1 Orange 
County Position: Full-time/NON-EXEMPT 

 
Purpose of Position 
The primary purpose of the Information &amp; Referral Specialist at our Contact/Call Center is to assess each caller’s 
needs and accurately refer them to the appropriate health, human and/or social services agencies from the 2-1-1 
Orange County (211OC) resource database. We provide expert knowledge of the 211OC resource database and its 
management software, empowering the Information &amp; Referral Specialist to provide each caller with quality 
customer service. By the end of each call, clients are one step closer to receiving the assistance that they need. 
 
 
Key Duties and Responsibilities 
 • Provide information and referral services to clients contacting 211OC through the helpline, email, texting 

methods, outreach events, or any other means identified by 211OC management as official I&amp;R channels. 
 • Perform in-depth screenings and assessments, collects client information, and encourage clients to apply for 

entitled benefits. 
 • Connect clients to appropriate resources, empower clients, de-escalate upset clients during crises and/or 

situations of abuse, trouble-shoot for additional options. 
 • Educate clients on available services to ensure it best fits their need and empower clients to choose the 

services they feel are most appropriate for their situations. 
 • Follow-up with clients in critical situations to ensure they received the assistance that they needed. If not, 

provide them with additional resources and help. 
 • Provide warm-transfers to appropriate crisis response teams in critical situations to receive help including 

Domestic Violence, Suicide, and Behavioral health hotlines, fire, and police departments. 
 • Assist callers with different languages by using the Language Line. 
 • Develop an expert working knowledge of the 211OC’s management software including Community 

Information Exchange database, telephony, softphone, texting, administrative systems and other approved 
software. 

 • Troubleshoot unavailability of services through expert knowledge of navigation of the 211OC’s resource 
database and through teamwork with other I&amp;R Specialists and the Resource Department. 

 • Assist clients in problem-solving when no services are available which can meet their needs. 
 • Other duties as assigned. 
 • Assist with compiling monthly and bi-annual program reporting. 
 • Advocate on behalf of clients who have been denied services. 
 • Troubleshoot basic technological failures.

 Job Title: Whatever it Takes (WIT) Specialist Reporting To: Whatever it Takes (WIT) Manager 

 Department: United to End Homelessness Position: Full-time/Hourly 

 
Purpose of Position 
The Whatever it Takes Specialist is responsible for implementing the Whatever it Takes (WIT) program, 
a program that supports over 40 partner agencies that provide CalAIM housing supports to CalOptima 
members. The goal of the WIT program is to expedite the time it takes to house an individual or family 
experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity and provide additional supports to aid in housing 
stabilization and prevent re-entry into homeless. The supports include providing flexible funding to 
help eligible households overcome financial barriers and secure housing. The WIT Specialist will 
support the WIT Manager with the facilitation of funding requests and the implementation of the 
program with the partner agencies. 
 
Key Duties and Responsibilities 

 • Assist the WIT Manager with the execution of WIT program procedures, policies, and protocols. 
 • Assist in the facilitation of funding requests including vetting requests, verifying documentation, 

confirming eligibility, preparing claims for payment issuance, and tracking progress of payments 
that are made to expedite the move-in process. 

 • Maintain positive relationships with WIT partner agencies and their staff by providing training 
support and technical assistance. 

 • Understand and comply with contractual obligations, HIPAA and PHI data sharing policies, and 
program performance metrics defined by funders. 

 • Maintain data integrity in digital databases including inputting and tracking agency and program 
participant information to ensure accuracy of program outcomes and evaluation. 

 • Provide excellent customer service to WIT partner agencies, property providers, and vendors in 
regard to funding requests and payment issuance. 

 • Work collaboratively with other United Way staff, as needed, to ensure the success of the 
program. 

 • Assume other duties as assigned. 
 
Job Requirements

Purpose of Position 
We are seeking an experienced Senior Marketing Manager to join our team. 
 
The Senior Marketing Manager will play a key role in shaping and maintaining a cohesive brand image for 
Orange County United Way across the community. This role will focus on supporting the marketing and 
communication needs for our Development and Philanthropy teams, signature events, and other key 
marketing initiatives. The successful candidate will manage the end-to-end execution of marketing 
projects, both print and digital, with a hands-on approach to ensuring high-quality output. 
 
In addition, the Sr. Marketing Manager will work closely with and manage a Marketing Specialist, serving 
as their direct supervisor. This includes leading, mentoring, and developing the Marketing Specialist, 
ensuring alignment on project goals, and fostering a collaborative team environment. 
 
Key responsibilities include understanding the unique needs and goals of each project, documenting 
requirements, setting and prioritizing timelines, and ensuring on-time delivery. This role requires strong 
vendor management skills, the ability to work collaboratively across internal teams, and the capability to 
lead both independently and alongside consultants. The Senior Marketing Manager will be expected to 
lead in the execution of projects, ensuring the delivery of high-quality results that align with 
organizational objectives and uphold brand integrity. 
 
Key Duties and Responsibilities 

 • Serve as the lead point of contact for our Development, Grant, Philanthropy, Event and 
Corporate Engagement teams for all marketing requests.

 • Oversee budgets and timelines. Responsible for driving projects to on-time completion and

This position&nbsp;will contribute to progress toward United Way's impact goals around early childhood education and grade-level reading by developing, implementing, and managing the operations of United We Read programs, with an emphasis on United Way Readers., and occasional support for other programs such as the Campaign for Grade-Level Reading, and other projects and initiatives in support of United Way’s literacy efforts. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;This position’s responsibilities include project management for volunteer recruitment and program participant enrollment; developing, monitoring, and participating in partnerships and collaborations to advance impact goals; planning and coordinating communications messaging and tactics among key partners; and providing content for grant applications, reports, and fundraising initiatives.&nbsp;What you will do:<ul><li>Understand local communities and develop and maintain effective relationships with community stakeholders and public/private partners to address United Way priorities.</li><li>In partnership with leadership volunteers and community partners, identify needs, assets, partners, resources, and innovative approaches to achieve intended community goals.&nbsp;</li><li>Oversee management of a portfolio of initiatives, collaboratives, and projects; and ensure effective engagement of volunteers (individuals and teams) in support of these strategies.</li><li>Develop knowledge of all United Way of Central and Northeastern CT programs and initiatives and represent United Way in the community as needed, both during and after regular business hours.</li><li>Serve as liaison to selected funded partner agencies within the scope of United Way’s early grade literacy portfolio.</li><li>Recruit/support volunteers in implementing United Way engagement opportunities.&nbsp;</li><li>Manage implementation of episodic group volunteer experiences that support community goals and the goals of corporate partners.</li><li>Design and manage community engagement services, experiences, and initiatives.</li><li>Facilitate effective cross-functional teamwork with internal and external partners.</li><li>Responsible for managing assigned sites for the United Way Readers program, including but not limited to overseeing the recruitment, training, scheduling, recognition, and retention of volunteers; building relationships with school and&nbsp;community-based&nbsp;partnerships&nbsp;to support program expansion; providing technical assistance and capacity building support to school-based&nbsp;partners; and compiling and sharing data for use with funders and programmatic partners.</li><li>Responsible for oversight and management of assigned sites for Read for the Record, Read Across America Day, and the Summer Reading Challenge. This includes participating in cross-functional teams to support volunteer recruitment and marketing of said events. Liaise to assigned participating school districts. Assist with book selection and ordering, as well as preparation of volunteer materials. Work with marketing to recruit local dignitaries, determine kickoff site locations, plan the run of shows and additional logistics.&nbsp;</li><li>Manage assigned tasks to support the Hartford Campaign for Grade-Level Reading; perform duties including convening communications staff/teams of CGLR partners; compiling content to inform messaging and support newsletter distribution and relationship building among key communities and early learning partners, and leading special projects that relate to efforts around early childhood education and grade level reading.</li><li>Responsible for overall management of all United Way Readers communications such as content for email newsletters, ensuring volunteers are informed of timely information and training opportunities, etc. Serves as Education Team liaison to marketing department.</li><li>Coordinate process for securing content for development of early literacy related grant applications; write copy for grant applications and provide support for the completion of grant-related reports.</li><li>Work in tandem with the designated United Way field instructor to directly supervise and provide guidance to UConn MSW Interns.</li><li>Performs other duties as needed.</li></ul>About You<ul><li>Bachelor’s degree in human services, education, social impact design, development, marketing, communication, data management, social work, public policy, or related field and/or equivalent experience preferred.</li><li>The ideal candidate is bilingual in Spanish and has familiarity with our local communities.</li><li>Minimum two years’ experience in volunteer management, social impact design, corporate community relations, project management, community organizing, or other related areas required; three years’ experience preferred.</li><li>Driver’s license and valid transportation required.</li><li>Technology skills including expertise with Microsoft Office and database management; willingness to learn new applications and identify innovative ways for technology to support organizational objectives.</li><li>Familiarity with asset-based and/or social impact design approaches to community development, volunteerism, corporate philanthropy, and tutoring/mentoring.</li><li>Project management skills: ability to multitask, problem-solve, prioritize, delegate, and to create systems and processes.</li><li>Requires excellent knowledge, skills and abilities in data analysis and insight generation, translation of complex issues into actionable efforts.</li><li>Excellent communication skills; able to communicate effectively and articulately in writing and orally.</li><li>Ability to keep his/her composure with the public and co-workers in everyday, stressful situations.</li><li>Ability to perform job with integrity, mission, vision, and values consistent with United Way of Central and Northeastern Connecticut.</li><li>Solid relationship management skills enhancing internal organizational relations and external community interactions.</li><li>Ability to relate well with people from diverse groups.</li><li>Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and juggle multiple priorities, and able to react and adjust quickly to changing conditions.</li><li>Holds self and other team members accountable for achieving results.</li><li>Top priority is to create real social change that leads to better lives and healthier communities.
