Position Overview

The United Way of the Mid-South (UWMS) is seeking a well-organized and independent leader to serve as a Mobile Assistant Site Coordinator for a Free Tax Preparation/ VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) mobile tax site providing free tax preparation at various locations. Assisting with overseeing a mobile free tax site, which offers free federal and state income tax preparation for qualifying families and individuals from January - April. With the guidance of Community Impact leadership, this individual will assist in the management of a Free Tax Preparation/VITA site.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • The Mobile Assistant Site Coordinator will assist in managing a mobile tax site for the tax season, providing Free Tax preparation at various locations. 
  • Helping to recruit, schedule and manage volunteer tax preparers for the season, ensuring all volunteers have obtained the necessary certifications.
  • Conduct Quality Reviews of returns filed by fellow volunteers.
  • Assist in site management including, maintaining confidentiality, client services, tax return review and transmission, and volunteer relations
  • Provides support and guidance to volunteer staff who prepare electronic tax returns for low and moderate-income taxpayers.
  • Responsible for the collaboration with the United Way Agency partners who will help in identifying potential clients for tax preparation.
  • Assisting with tax preparation when necessary. 
  • Completing the Volunteer Standards of Conduct, Intake/Interview/Quality Review, Site Coordinator, advanced IRS Tax Law, HSA and Military certifications
  • Assisting in providing regular reports to UWMS to support IRS reporting requirements. 

Qualifications

  • A general understanding of income tax law is helpful, paid IRS-sponsored training will be provided
  • Successful completion of the IRS advanced course is required to provide quality control, support, and guidance to volunteers
  • Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment, and display a supportive and professional disposition with diverse populations
  • Experience and comfort serving clients from diverse backgrounds
  • Comfort with technology (computers, software, internet platforms, etc)
  • Self-motivated with a high degree of flexibility, creativity, and independence
  • Flexible schedule (some assignments will require weekend/evening work)
  • Possess excellent organizational, leadership, and management skills
  • Reliable transportation to drive to the tax site and transport all necessary equipment as needed.

Physical Requirements

This position requires the employee to be able to lift 30 pounds.  The employee is regularly required to stand for long periods of time.  The employee is frequently required to use finger and hand motion, and to reach using arms and hands.   The position may also require significant walking and capability to climb stairs.  The employee will need to have the ability to talk to and hear customers during events.  Specific visual abilities required include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.  There may be additional physical requirements associated with off-site corporate or volunteer events.

This position requires a valid Driver’s License, car insurance and reliable transportation.  The position also requires flexible hours outside of normal business hours and some local travel to meet with partners.
