Employment Service Navigator-Hybrid

The Executive Director will report to and work collaboratively with the Board of Directors in advancing the mission of the United Way of Virginia (UWVA). The Executive Director will be responsible for managing the operation of the United Way of Virginia within the guidelines of the annual budget to ensure a balanced operation. The Executive Director will focus on public policy advocacy, state-level partnerships, organizing statewide efforts, and fundraising. The Executive Director is responsible for advocating for the association to benefit the statewide network of local United Ways. The Executive Director will help create and advance a strategic direction and be responsible for its implementation, as well as supporting United for ALICE (a data project focused on raising awareness of the growing number of working Virginians who struggle to make ends meet). Local United Ways in Virginia are the first customers, stakeholders, priority, and focus of this position. REPORTS TO: President/Chief Executive Officer 

PURPOSE: The Director of Philanthropy supports the mission of United Way of El Paso 
County (UWEPC) by analyzing giving data, developing and executing a 
strategic plan, and forging collaborative relationships to achieve 
fundraising goals. 

POSITION OVERVIEW: 

The Director of Philanthropy will have primary responsibility to achieve established monetary and 
audit goals according to established timeline. The Director will grow revenue through 
workplace/employee, corporate, and individual giving; corporate engagement, including affinity 
groups and development services and sponsorships. The Director will expand and diversify donor 
base/pipeline and work closely with other team members to secure funding for current and 
emerging needs/initiatives. 


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Day-to-Day Management 
ï· Prospect management: Gather and utilize data in making requests for donations and other 

types of contributions. Connect prospective individual donors to United Way’s 
work. Connect prospective corporate donor areas of interest or Corporate Social 
Responsibility (CSR) to United Way’s work. Inspire commitment and support for United 
Way. 

ï· Effective selling: Employ consultative selling techniques to match donor interests and 
community aspirations to United Way products/solutions. Measure and track donor and 
employee campaign volunteer satisfaction. 

ï· Create win/win relationships: Understand United Way and donor objectives and where 
they intersect. Identify tangible outcomes that benefit both parties; Identify strategies and 
opportunities to build trust. Engage with donors year-round to nurture and enhance 
relationships. 

ï· Steward donors: Recognize the power of effective stewardship (thanking donors, 
informing them about the impact of their gifts, keeping them apprised of progress on the 
community work it is intended to address and deepening the relationship) and develops 
and implements plans to steward donors of all giving levels. 


Workplace/Employee/Corporate Campaigns 

ï· Maintain close, positive relationships with the key accounts in assigned portfolio 
throughout the year, including planning and oversight of the accounts’ annual United Way 
campaign – focusing on building and maintaining effective relationships. 

ï· Drive the strategy and execution around reimaging corporate partnerships and how to 
engage employees through workplace campaigns, and as individuals to support the work 
of United Way. 

ï· Conduct presentations to employees, key executives, and other special interest groups. 

ï· Conduct ongoing follow-up with workplace giving campaign coordinators to ensure 
effective close-out of campaigns. 

ï· Oversee Combined Campaigns, working closely with City, County and State officials to 
ensure rules/guidelines are followed. 
 

Donor Networks 

ï· Annual development and management of strategies for increasing 
membership/contribution from: 

o Leadership Society, 

o Emerging Leaders, 

o Young Leaders Society, 

o RISE with YLS, 

o Small Business Big Impact, 

o and other networks. 

 
Donor Relations 

ï· Oversee donor relations and engagement, including corporate engagement. 

 
Donor Data Management 

ï· Responsible for CRM upkeep and implementation. UWEPC currently uses CRM Lite 
software. 

ï· Responsible y for overseeing data entry of opportunities (daily money) ensuring United 
Way Worldwide standards are maintained. 

ï· Responsible for overseeing data entry for workplace giving campaigns and United Way 
Worldwide DB1/DB2. 

ï· Maintain tracking system for all donor recognition, including thank-you letters and e-mails. 
 
Grants 

ï· Working closely with other staff, responsible for upkeep of grant tracker, grant research, 
and coordination of grant-related meetings to ensure all staff understand their roles in the 
application process. Will serve as lead for a portion of United Way grant applications 
ensuring full organizational integration, including support from other senior staff and/or 
contract grant writers.

ï· Recruit, supervise, and manage qualified and dedicated staff within UWEPC Philanthropy 
Department. 

ï· Plan and coordinate ongoing professional development and appropriate skills training for 
staff on pertinent topics.

ï· Supervise and manage staff workloads and performance plans.

Community Partnerships 

ï· Maintain working knowledge of all UWEPC programs, engagement and initiatives to serve 
as a strong representative and advocate for the organization. 

ï· Seek and maintain strong community partnerships with local service providers and 
potential supporters.

assess community needs and strategically provide services in collaboration with partners.

stakeholders. Research new programs and services that may be relevant to the mission 
and values of UWEPC.

CEO, including elected officials and key County and City staff.

Minimum Qualifications--Experience/Position Requirements 

Bachelor’s degree in subjects related to health and human services, non-profit or organizational 
management, public relations, communications, marketing, or social services, plus seven (7)

The Mission and Opportunity
211 NorCal operates in Shasta, Tehama, and Siskiyou counties and provides free social services information and referrals to residents 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. The service is available through call, web (211norcal.org), and text services. Common referrals are for housing; food; utility assistance; counseling and addiction services; free or low-cost legal assistance, and transportation.
211 NorCal is experiencing growth due to increased awareness of the service; new contracts for outreach on specific health and child development issues; planned expansion to neighboring counties (for example, Plumas County service is envisioned within the next 12-18 months), and 211’s utility as an easy-to-remember number for public information during times of disaster. Because 211 is always “on,” and because its scope can encompass any social services need, possibilities for service and expansion abound.

The program is a central element of the agency’s mission to fight for the health, education, and financial stability of all residents, and to be there during times of crisis. Through the maintenance of the 2-1-1 database, UWNC connects with virtually all social services and emergency response agencies in the region. Job Summary
The 211 Program Manager will ensure operational excellence of the 211 social services helpline and its related services. The Program Manager will supervise the resource database team and oversee 211 NorCal’s relationship with its outsourced Call Center. Working closely with the UWNC President &amp; CEO, Senior Director of Programs, and the agency’s senior leadership team, the Program Manager will help shape strategic direction for the service, looking for new opportunities to expand mission and revenue. The Public Policy and Advocacy Manager will provide strategic leadership and daily management of efforts that advance our local, state and federal policy agenda while also building the advocacy capacity of our staff, volunteers and partners.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
<ul><li>Provide day-to-day support for staff, volunteers and partners to influence policy at national, state and local levels.</li>
<li>Track identified legislative and public policy priorities and update UWGC staff and volunteers on status changes.</li>
<li>Collaborate with the director to identify and create strategies for calls to action with UWGC constituencies.</li>
<li>Build advocacy capacity of UWGC staff, volunteers and partners through professional development, convenings and issue education.</li>
<li>Support relationships with existing and new community partners, coalition members and lawmakers.</li>
<li>Represent UWGC at coalitions, conferences, task forces and legislative meetings.</li>
<li>Use UWGC messaging and message frames to prepare action alerts, talking points and testimony, issue briefs, letters, press statements, opinion editorials, website updates, blogs, and legislative and public policy reports.</li>
<li>Stay informed of national best practices and trends and provides strategic advice about how to integrate into UWGC’s public policy and advocacy work.</li>
<li>Monitor program quality and impact and creates reports.</li>
<li>Manage projects and collaborations with internal and external stakeholders.</li>
<li>Work to grow UWGC’s advocacy network.</li>
<li>Organize and execute advocacy events and initiatives.</li>
<li>Together with the Public Policy and Advocacy Director, support the UWGC Public Policy Committee.</li>
</ul>Minimum Qualifications:
<ul><li>Bachelor’s degree and at least three years’ full-time, professional work experience with significant responsibilities. Education cannot substitute for work experience.</li>
<li>Team orientation, ambition, and a strong work ethic.</li>
<li>Willing to work weekends and evenings and travel throughout Kentucky, Ohio and Indiana as necessary.</li>
<li>Access to a car, possession of a valid driver’s license, and proof of current automobile insurance.</li>
<li>Complete and pass all background checks and security clearances.</li>

<li>Embrace technology and demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Familiarity with Salesforce, Asana and advocacy software (Muster, Voter Voice, or similar) is a bonus.</li>
</ul>Salary starting $60,000, plus competitive benefits package.
