Position Summary 
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director (ED) will be a mission-driven, 
collaborative, and innovative leader. The ED will manage the entire United Way of Coastal Carolina 
(UWCC) operation within the annual budget guidelines as adopted by the Board of Directors. The 
Executive Director will serve as the brand ambassador and champion of the organization in the 
community, which includes connecting with a constituency of givers, recipients of services, 
individuals, associations, agencies, education partners, government, businesses, and other 
institutions. The Executive Director will possess a high level of broad business skills, financial 
acumen, and strategic management expertise to effectively retool the campaign process to generate 
resources and financial support for the organization. As a lead spokesperson, the Executive 
Director will ensure that United Way of Coastal Carolina’s mission and community investments are 
consistently presented positively and collaboratively. This is not a remote work position 
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities 
 

ï· Commitment to United Way’s mission and values, including the ability to build 
relationships with donors and non-profit partners. 

ï· Coordinate organizational resources to ensure strategic alignment in community impact, 
resource development, and staff alignment. 

ï· Provide strategic and long-term vision consistent with the direction set in partnership 
with the Board of Directors. 

ï· Work with the Board of Directors to determine objectives and strategies for meeting 
goals; allocate resources according to priorities; and leverage all resources available to 
accomplish associated tasks and anticipated obstacles. 

ï· Oversee fundraising planning and implementation, including identifying resource 
requirements, developing innovative future strategies, researching funding sources, and 
establishing an effective process to secure resources while overseeing fundraising 
records and documentation. 

ï· Maintain and foster relationships with current workplace campaigns and identify, 
cultivate, and solicit prospective donors and corporate partners to develop fundraising 
opportunities further. 


ï· Maintain accountability for the operational and fiscal integrity of the organization within 
policies set by the Board of Directors. 

ï· Ensure that the Board has access to all information needed to carry out its governance 
responsibilities and is informed of matters and developments that warrant their 
attention. 

ï· Advance the mission and image of the organization by serving as the chief 
representative to all internal and external stakeholders, including the Board, staff, local 
nonprofits, donors, the media, government, and the public. 

ï· Implement a year-round program of communications and marketing to bring the

This position provides strategic oversight and guidance to lead those within each group’s membership portfolio, while ensuring the mission of United Way is reflected in the groups’ activities and be part of our United Way team located in Hartford CT.&nbsp;What You’ll Do:<ul><li>Serve as the staff manager for United Way’s Regional Advisory Boards, Women United and Emerging Leaders Society, developing and implementing strategies to deepen their engagement with United Way.&nbsp;</li><li>Achieve financial, growth and engagement goals associated with Regional Advisory Boards and affinity groups.</li><li>Manage a major gift and corporate engagement portfolio and achieve growth and retention goal.</li><li>Create/update and manage the business plans for each group, thereby guiding the work and establishing the function of each group.&nbsp;</li><li>Maintain governance guidelines and standards for all groups.</li><li>Manage budget(s) to include events and other costs associated with affinity group and Regional Advisory Board management.</li><li>Lead in efforts to achieve measurable goals designed to expand and deepen membership engagement.</li><li>Develop, test, promote and periodically refresh value-added membership portfolios.</li><li>Collaborate with other resource development staff in acquiring new members in and out of the workplace.</li><li>Prepare data-based reports on each of the affinity groups and Regional Advisory Boards to measure progress and drive future success and develop suggestions to further the effectiveness of the affinity group activities and strategies.</li><li>Other duties as assigned</li></ul>Leadership Volunteer Management:&nbsp;<ul><li>Communicate clearly, regularly and effectively with Regional Advisory Boards, affinity group leadership committees and with the entire body of members, as feasible, to build coordination, teamwork, enthusiasm and a sense of common purpose. Specific activities include:</li><li>Prepare and distribute an appropriately branded communication plans for each group to build their engagement with United Way&nbsp;</li><li>Recruit, train and manage volunteers for the respective group</li><li>Collaborate with marketing to coordinate creation of accurate and branded collateral&nbsp;</li><li>Coordinate and lead regular meetings of Regional Advisory Boards and committees associated with affinity groups.&nbsp;</li></ul>Cross-Functional Collaboration:<ul><li>Provide guidance and direction for volunteer projects selected for affinity groups and regional engagement to support the mission of United Way&nbsp;</li><li>Partner with the Community Impact and Engagement team staff to ensure compelling mission-aligned event programming</li><li>In partnership with the Marketing team, plan and implement strategic, data-driven, branded, mission-focused affinity events that recognize, steward and further cultivate current donors, volunteers and prospects, increasing their engagement with the organization. Senior Manager Affinity Groups

The Director of Philanthropy initiates, cultivates, and stewards relationships with major donors. The Director of Philanthropy plans and coordinates all aspects of fund development in accordance with Rappahannock United Way’s mission and standard of excellence. Special emphasis is given to Tocqueville Society membership growth. &nbsp;Responsibilities include providing leadership in all fundraising initiatives including special events, corporate gifts, major gifts, grants, planned giving and sponsorship acquisition. The Director of Philanthropy is responsible for formulating a funding strategy and executing a development plan which deepens the commitment of existing donors, increases the number of overall supporters and creates opportunities for all to contribute to Rappahannock United Way’s mission in practical and meaningful ways.
