 Job Title: Desktop Support Specialist Reporting To: Director, IT 

 Department: IT Position: Full-Time/ Non-exempt 


Purpose of Position 
The Desktop Support Specialist will support the end-user computer needs for functionality, systems 
updates and hardware deployments. The role provides support to Orange County United Way teams by 
providing user assistance and training on both systems and applications used by the organization. 
End-user and system support is provided for both onsite and remote employees, the need to 
troubleshoot and fix problems will occur regularly using remote connectivity tools. 
The position will also be responsible for hardware and software deployments, inventory controls, user 
training on systems and applications. 
 

Key Duties and Responsibilities 
 • Provide desktop systems and user support to ensure required computer capabilities are 

available to all users 

 • Develop and provide systems and software training to the end-users 

 • Manage trouble tickets and ensure customer satisfaction 

 • Install, configure, test, maintain, monitor, and troubleshoot end-user workstations and related 
hardware and software for local and remote users 

 • Develop and maintain an inventory of all IT desktops, components and equipment 

 • Maintain documentation on all desktop processes and procedures 

 • Ensure that application and system updates are in place 

 • Deploy, implement, troubleshoot and support the workforce environment 

 • Monitor the ongoing operation of the Windows environment 

 • Identify risk and challenges and implements corrective actions as needed 

 • Performs related work as assigned

POSITION SUMMARY&nbsp;(Eligible for Hybrid/ 3 days in office - Alexandria, VA)The Director will provide operational process and project management support to the Government Partnerships Team and the SVP, Government Partnerships. &nbsp;We are seeking a utility player who can manage daily operations in addition to leading special projects and can work in ambiguity to solve problems and create opportunities. VBthrive is a collaborative initiative geared to support long-term pandemic recovery by serving the 
needs of individuals, families and businesses in the City of Virginia Beach that have been impacted 
by COVID-19 to help them build stability and lasting self-sufficiency. Specifically, the initiative will 
work with a variety of partners to provide support for individuals and families through coaching and 
resource navigation in the priority areas of housing, financial management, workforce readiness, and 
wraparound services. Mobility Mentors are a key role in the VBthrive program and provide one-on-
one coaching to partner with participants on their path to self-sufficiency. 
 

Objectives &amp; Expectations: 


The case manager will work directly with individuals to focus on self-sufficiency by connecting them 
with wraparound services. They will demonstrate an understanding of issues, community needs, and 
existing systems of care related to the ALICE population. Case management is defined as a 
collaborative process of assessment, planning, facilitation, care coordination, evaluation, and 
advocacy for options and services to meet an individual’s comprehensive health needs. Case 
managers support individuals in setting priorities, connecting to resources, and achieving goals. 
Candidate must be customer focused, data-driven, organized, and results oriented. This position is 
based in Virginia Beach, and the case manager must be able to work a flexible schedule that includes 
evenings and/or weekends to meet the individual’s needs. Successful candidates will have a strong 


ability to communicate effectively, build relationships and educate stakeholders on the needs of the 
ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) population. Experience implementing 
motivational interviewing and trauma-informed practices is preferred.

 • Providing individualized wraparound services for individuals within ALICE population and those living 
below the Federal Poverty Level

referrals within specified guidelines.

Key Responsibilities 
Resource Development (70%) 
 

 • Oversee the design and implementation of resource development strategies, including donor 
outreach and events, corporate giving, grant opportunities and corporate/program sponsorship

 • Manage and oversee annual campaign efforts including GiveBig, Year-End, and workplace giving 
campaigns, ensuring timely communication and meeting campaign needs of external partners. 

 • Work with the Director of Finance to develop and monitor revenue streams to better 
understand and communicate cash flow. Additionally, work together to set financial milestones 
that establish achievements for celebration and opportunities for course correction. 

 • Maintain a portfolio of top corporate, foundation, and major donors and prospects; develop and 
implement strategies for engagement in UWSC activities and increased giving. 

 • Provide the Executive Director and UWSC board of directors with regular updates on data 
relevant to tracking fundraising progress and planning. 

 • Steward the UWSC board of directors’ giving to UWSC and support the board’s understanding of 
fundraising efforts. 

 • Represent UWSC in the community on boards, panels and commissions and events that support 
UWSC’s community and fundraising goals. 

 • Stay informed and up to date on community, state and national issues that have a bearing on 
the work of UWSC. 

 • Develop a thorough knowledge of the United Way nationally and build positive relationships 
across the United Way system. 

 • Create and monitor the resource development budget; work with the Executive Director and 
Finance Director in creating the organization’s overall budget by providing accurate information

Marketing and Communications (30%) 


 • Set the overall strategic direction for marketing and communications activities, including 
branding, public relations, crisis communications, advertising, email newsletters, and print and 
electronic materials development. 

 • Oversee the development of a comprehensive, year-round marketing plan that supports the 
engagement strategy. 

 • Ensure that communications are capable of achieving desired response by recipients while 
telling stories that are respectful and empathetic of individuals experiencing hardship. 

 • Drive digital innovation by overseeing and creating content for social media strategies and 
tactics, the UWSC website, annual report, collateral videos, etc. 

 • Identify key target audiences and develop messaging plans to engage each of these audiences to

Preferred Qualifications 
 

 • 5+ years related experience and progressive leadership with a proven history of high level, high 
return fundraising or business development results based on building strong, lasting 
relationships with donors/customers, or equivalent combination of education and experience. 

 • Experience with securing foundation and/or government grants. 

 • Experience with Little Green Light or other similar CRM programs. 

 • Experience with Adobe products, including InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator, as well as 
experience with online platform Canva. 

 • Experience with Drupal or similar web-based programs a plus.

JOB DESCRIPTION 
 

Position Title: United To Solve Homelessness Coordinator 
Reports To: Director of Community Impact 

Type of Position: Full-time; Permanent 
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt 

 
Role: The United To Solve Homelessness Coordinator works directly with the Impact team and the 

Director of Community Impact to coordinate the United To Solve Homelessness project. This 
project will include working with community partners to unite efforts towards implementing 
effective strategies that reduce families experiencing homelessness. The successful candidate is 
one who thrives on serving others, welcomes the opportunity to work with homeless service 
providers, and who will maintain a laser focus on the mission to advance the common good in our

Grant Management (10%): This position will be responsible for management of grants and funds that 
support housing and homelessness. The current funding source is the Day 1 Families Fund. Specific duties 
may include, but are not limited to: 

 • Assure activities and expenses meet funding guidelines. 
 • Maintain an ongoing budget to track funds expended and available. 
 • Complete reporting and other funding requirements. 
 • Research and prepare applications for other funding as prioritized. 
 • Oversee program related employees and contractors as assigned. 
 • Track and assess program performance, using data to evaluate success. 

 
Fund Distribution &amp; Management (25%): This position will coordinate a collaborative process to distribute 
and manage Day 1 Families Funds and other related funding to the community. Specific duties may 
include, but are not limited to: 

 • Work with a volunteer team to plan and create a fund distribution strategy. 
 • Oversee the fund distribution strategy to promote a collaborative process. 
 • Work with funded partners to assure proper implementation of funds and projects. 
 • Monitor and track fund distribution to assure effective and efficient use of funds. 

 
Housing Strategy Support (60%): This position will work collaboratively with City and County officials, 
Continuum of Care Coalition, School District 2, HomeFront, and other community partners to assess 
housing needs, identify promising strategies, and support local efforts specific to housing. Specific duties 
may include, but are not limited to: 

 • Engage collaboratively with community partner agencies to identify needs and develop strategies 
and activities to support their housing work. 

 • Develop and implement a strategic plan based on needs, strategies and activities prioritized 
through community engagement. 

 • Champion data collection and statistics for prioritized data needs, such as real cost measurements 
for households living below the financial survival threshold or poverty.

 • Identify strategic community investment/collaborative opportunities and solutions for family 
homelessness through targeted community resource initiatives aimed at increasing housing 
stability and supporting basic needs (housing, childcare, food, transportation, health care, and 
technology). 

 • Leverage additional dollars and real estate to maximize grant impact. 
 • Support community awareness and advocacy efforts around homelessness in Yellowstone County. 
 

General UWYC Support (5%): Includes other duties as needed to support UWYC operations. 
1. Provide assistance as needed to other UWYC programs and personnel, including volunteer 

engagement. 
2. Assist with UWYC Annual Campaign. 
3. Represent UWYC at community meetings, agency events and service/civic clubs. 
4. Serve as a United Way of Yellowstone County ambassador at all times by communicating the 

mission and vision of United Way.

QUALIFICATIONS 
 
Education and Experience: 

1. Bachelor’s degree required. 
2. 3 years of experience coordinating programs required. 
3. Experience working with housing and/or homelessness preferred. 
4. Experience with grants management preferred.

1. Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional documents. Ability to write and 
create documents in a manner that is understandable and organized. Ability to effectively present 
information and respond to questions. Ability to use effective interpersonal communication skills
