Job Responsibilities: 
 
1. Campaign Support: 

a. Assist in developing and implementing comprehensive fundraising campaigns, including 
workplace campaigns, individual giving, and special events. 

b. Collaborate with the Resource Development team to create campaign materials, 
presentations, and fundraising tools to support campaign activities. 

c. Provide support in conducting prospect research and identifying potential donors and 
sponsors. 

d. Assist with donor cultivation and stewardship activities, including acknowledgment letters, 
donor recognition, and relationship management. 
 

2. Relationship Management: 
a. Build and maintain positive relationships with corporate partners, individual donors, and 

community stakeholders. 
b. Serve as a liaison between United Way of South Hampton Roads and campaign volunteers, 

providing necessary training, guidance, and resources. 
c. Support volunteer recruitment and engagement efforts to ensure campaign success. 


3. Data Management and Reporting: 
a. Utilize the CRM system to accurately record and track donor information, contributions, and 

campaign results. 
b. Generate regular reports on campaign progress, donor participation, and fundraising 

outcomes. 
c. Analyze campaign data and provide insights to inform strategic decision-making and future 

campaign planning. 


4. Communication and Marketing: 
a. Assist in the distribution of campaign-related communications, such as newsletters, social 

media posts, and email updates. 
b. Support the creation of engaging content and stories to highlight the impact of United Way's 

work and the importance of community support. 
c. Collaborate with the Marketing team to ensure consistent messaging and branding across all 

campaign materials.

The Executive Director will report to and work collaboratively with the Board of Directors in advancing the mission of the United Way of Virginia (UWVA). The Executive Director will be responsible for managing the operation of the United Way of Virginia within the guidelines of the annual budget to ensure a balanced operation. The Executive Director will focus on public policy advocacy, state-level partnerships, organizing statewide efforts, and fundraising. The Executive Director is responsible for advocating for the association to benefit the statewide network of local United Ways. POSITION: DIRECTOR OF PHILANTHROPY 

REPORTS TO: President/Chief Executive Officer 

PURPOSE: The Director of Philanthropy supports the mission of United Way of El Paso 
County (UWEPC) by analyzing giving data, developing and executing a 
strategic plan, and forging collaborative relationships to achieve 
fundraising goals. 

POSITION OVERVIEW: 

The Director of Philanthropy will have primary responsibility to achieve established monetary and 
audit goals according to established timeline. The Director will grow revenue through 
workplace/employee, corporate, and individual giving; corporate engagement, including affinity 
groups and development services and sponsorships. The Director will expand and diversify donor 
base/pipeline and work closely with other team members to secure funding for current and 
emerging needs/initiatives. 


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Day-to-Day Management 
ï· Prospect management: Gather and utilize data in making requests for donations and other 

types of contributions. Connect prospective individual donors to United Way’s 
work. Connect prospective corporate donor areas of interest or Corporate Social 
Responsibility (CSR) to United Way’s work. Inspire commitment and support for United 
Way. 

ï· Effective selling: Employ consultative selling techniques to match donor interests and 
community aspirations to United Way products/solutions. Measure and track donor and 
employee campaign volunteer satisfaction. 

ï· Create win/win relationships: Understand United Way and donor objectives and where 
they intersect. Identify tangible outcomes that benefit both parties; Identify strategies and 
opportunities to build trust. Engage with donors year-round to nurture and enhance 
relationships. 

ï· Steward donors: Recognize the power of effective stewardship (thanking donors, 
informing them about the impact of their gifts, keeping them apprised of progress on the 
community work it is intended to address and deepening the relationship) and develops 
and implements plans to steward donors of all giving levels. 


Workplace/Employee/Corporate Campaigns 

ï· Maintain close, positive relationships with the key accounts in assigned portfolio 
throughout the year, including planning and oversight of the accounts’ annual United Way 
campaign – focusing on building and maintaining effective relationships. 

ï· Drive the strategy and execution around reimaging corporate partnerships and how to 
engage employees through workplace campaigns, and as individuals to support the work 
of United Way. 

ï· Conduct presentations to employees, key executives, and other special interest groups. 

ï· Conduct ongoing follow-up with workplace giving campaign coordinators to ensure 
effective close-out of campaigns. 

ï· Oversee Combined Campaigns, working closely with City, County and State officials to 
ensure rules/guidelines are followed. 
 

Donor Networks 

ï· Annual development and management of strategies for increasing 
membership/contribution from: 

o Leadership Society, 

o Emerging Leaders, 

o Young Leaders Society, 

o RISE with YLS, 

o Small Business Big Impact, 

o and other networks. 

 
Donor Relations 

ï· Oversee donor relations and engagement, including corporate engagement. 

 
Donor Data Management 

ï· Responsible for CRM upkeep and implementation. UWEPC currently uses CRM Lite 
software. 

ï· Responsible y for overseeing data entry of opportunities (daily money) ensuring United 
Way Worldwide standards are maintained. 

ï· Responsible for overseeing data entry for workplace giving campaigns and United Way 
Worldwide DB1/DB2. 

ï· Maintain tracking system for all donor recognition, including thank-you letters and e-mails. 
 
Grants 

ï· Working closely with other staff, responsible for upkeep of grant tracker, grant research, 
and coordination of grant-related meetings to ensure all staff understand their roles in the 
application process. Will serve as lead for a portion of United Way grant applications 
ensuring full organizational integration, including support from other senior staff and/or 
contract grant writers. 
 
 


Staff Leadership and Management 

ï· Recruit, supervise, and manage qualified and dedicated staff within UWEPC Philanthropy 
Department. 

ï· Plan and coordinate ongoing professional development and appropriate skills training for 
staff on pertinent topics. 

ï· Lead and guide team members in strategically developing and building awareness of 
services related to addressing community needs. 

ï· Supervise and manage staff workloads and performance plans. 

ï· Provide strategic focus for the team, including encouraging collaboration between 
initiatives and partners. 

 
Community Partnerships 

ï· Maintain working knowledge of all UWEPC programs, engagement and initiatives to serve 
as a strong representative and advocate for the organization. 

ï· Seek and maintain strong community partnerships with local service providers and 
potential supporters. 

ï· Cultivate a strong collaborative of response and engagement by convening partners to 
assess community needs and strategically provide services in collaboration with partners. 

ï· Participate in recurring program and strategic meetings to assist in shaping the vision of 
UWEPC Community Impact products and partnerships. 

ï· Advocate for UWEPC Community Impact products with community partners and 
stakeholders. Research new programs and services that may be relevant to the mission 
and values of UWEPC. 

ï· Develop and cultivate successful business/personal relationships with key employees and 
CEO, including elected officials and key County and City staff. 

ï· Facilitate relationships with partners for direct services and programming to clients 
including MOUs, reporting, and information sharing.

Minimum Qualifications--Experience/Position Requirements 

Bachelor’s degree in subjects related to health and human services, non-profit or organizational 
management, public relations, communications, marketing, or social services, plus seven (7) 
years of work experience and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience related 
to the duties of the position. Master’s degree in Public Administration, Health &amp; Human Services, 
Communications, or Business Administration preferred. 

Knowledge of the non-profit and social services sector is essential. Preference will be given to 
individuals who can demonstrate knowledge of CRM software and data entry. Skills in grant-
writing, grant management, personnel management, program development and operation, 
leadership, strategic planning, management of sub-contractors and partnerships, and volunteer 
engagement are desired. 

Analytical and decision-making skills and an ability to anticipate and develop appropriate 

recommendations consistent with the desired work environment. Leadership, strategic vision and 

big picture perspective. 

Excellent verbal and written communication skills and an ability to create the internal

The Mission and Opportunity
211 NorCal operates in Shasta, Tehama, and Siskiyou counties and provides free social services information and referrals to residents 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. The service is available through call, web (211norcal.org), and text services. Common referrals are for housing; food; utility assistance; counseling and addiction services; free or low-cost legal assistance, and transportation.
211 NorCal is experiencing growth due to increased awareness of the service; new contracts for outreach on specific health and child development issues; planned expansion to neighboring counties (for example, Plumas County service is envisioned within the next 12-18 months), and 211’s utility as an easy-to-remember number for public information during times of disaster. Because 211 is always “on,” and because its scope can encompass any social services need, possibilities for service and expansion abound.
United Way of Northern California (UWNC) operates 211 NorCal. The program is a central element of the agency’s mission to fight for the health, education, and financial stability of all residents, and to be there during times of crisis. Through the maintenance of the 2-1-1 database, UWNC connects with virtually all social services and emergency response agencies in the region. The continued effectiveness and expansion of 211 is critical to UWNC’s strategic future.
Job Summary
The 211 Program Manager will ensure operational excellence of the 211 social services helpline and its related services. The Program Manager will supervise the resource database team and oversee 211 NorCal’s relationship with its outsourced Call Center. Working closely with the UWNC President &amp; CEO, Senior Director of Programs, and the agency’s senior leadership team, the Program Manager will help shape strategic direction for the service, looking for new opportunities to expand mission and revenue. The 211 Manager will ensure effective communications and collaboration with key stakeholders including valued funders; the UWNC&nbsp;Board of Directors and its Community Impact Committee; the 2-1-1 Advisory Committee; state 2-1-1 provider networks; non-profit partners, and emergency response agencies.
Principal Job Responsibilities 
	•Supervise the 211 resource database specialist and database contractor; oversee the collection and maintenance of resources for the 211 NorCal database and the maintenance and development of the 211norcal.org website 
	•Coordinate updates to 211norcal.org; provide materials as needed to the web contractor 
	•Serve as the principal contact for the 211 Call Center and database software vendor 
	•Serve as the principal contact for 211 funders and program partners 
	•Coordinate effective communications and project implementation with partner agencies in Shasta, Tehama, Siskiyou, and Plumas County 
	•Working with senior leadership, develop and implement program goals for 211 with an eye toward innovative initiatives that advance the mission and provide revenue opportunities 
	•Working with the President &amp; CEO, Senior Director of Programs, and, as needed, the Chief Development Officer, locate and apply for grants and contracts 
	•Ensure all activities mandated by contract are executed and that contracted reporting is completed in a timely fashion 
	•Ensure drafting and implementation of marketing and communications efforts aimed at spreading awareness and mobilizing public support for 211 
	•Staff and support the agency’s 211 Advisory Committee 
	•Provide reports on usage of the service and other operational data on a regular and ongoing basis 
	•Respond quickly and decisively to ensure effective mobilization and utilization of 211 during times of crisis and disaster 
	•Represent the CEO, other agency leaders, and United Way as needed and assigned to community and sector events 
	•Other duties as assigned

	•Minimum Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent work experience, in health and human services, business administration, public administration, or related fields. 
	•Minimum three years experience in the non-profit field, or in government or private-sector work that intersects with social issues. 
	•At least two years of management/supervisory experience. 
	•Proven track record of working with multiple agencies or entities to accomplish mutual objectives. 
	•Knowledge of regional social service issues and agencies is a plus. 
	•Bilingual/multilingual is a plus. 
	•Experience with a call service, call center, and/or helpline is a plus. 
	•Able to work on a keyboard comfortably through an eight-hour shift. 
	•Able to lift up to 15 pounds.
