Social Media Manager
POSITION SUMMARY (Hybrid, 3 days in office - Alexandria, VA)
The Manager, Social Media is a member of the United Way Worldwide (UWW) Digital Marketing team who supports the implementation of a comprehensive social media strategy to build awareness and engagement growth for United Way Worldwide locally, nationally and internationally. This role reports to the Director of Social Media.
We are looking for someone who is passionate about how social media can be a strategic and invaluable platform for generating awareness and moving audiences to action in support of United Way’s impact areas and can help elevate the work of the United Way Network in creating thriving communities.
The ideal candidate understands how trending social content can be used to support UWW’s goals and share UWW’s expertise, has an eye for detail, is a strong writer, and can analyze channel metrics to adjust strategy and content.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Strategy
- Partner with the Director of Social Media in developing and implementing organizational social media strategies that grow UWW’s online presence, and strengthen brand position and audience engagement
- Lead the development and implementation of a variety of social campaigns in support of brand partnerships, events, fundraising, and overall brand positioning
- Serve as an integral member of the Digital Marketing team, working across departments to identify content opportunities that drive brand awareness and audience engagement
Content Creation and Management
- Propose and develop content ideas for all UWW social media channels, including reviewing and providing feedback on design and video concepts from designers, editors, and producers
- Create compelling and engaging content (both written and visual) for a variety of social channels
- Manage the social media editorial calendar and social scheduling/posting to UWW channels
- Support development of United Way network materials including toolkits and other digital media library materials
- Attend UWW virtual and in-person events, capturing content for use on social media channels
Analytics
- Track campaign performance and channel analytics for UWW and CEO Angela F. Williams
- Lead development of monthly and quarterly reporting for UWW and CEO channels in partnership with the Manager of Digital Marketing Analytics and Insights, providing analysis and briefing the Director of Social Media and Senior Director, Digital Marketing on performance
Social Media Monitoring and Listening
- Conduct research on social media trends, platforms, industry events and peer set. Provide briefings to team members
- Manage social media listening for UWW and CEO channels, identifying opportunities and elevating points of concern
- Partner with the Director of Social Media on community management of UWW channels, including replying to comments and direct messages
EDUCATION/REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, or related field required and at least 3 years of experience in content creation and social media
- Knowledge of multiple social platforms, familiarity with current best practices, and ability to recognize and leverage emerging trends and platforms
- Ability to write engaging content for social media with attention to detail
- Strong cultural competencies and ability to effectively communicate to a diverse, global audience
- Strong research and analytical skills and ability to synthesize the data and brief leadership
- Experience with social listening and community management
- Team- and solution-oriented relationship builder and collaborator
- Ability to organize, set priorities, and manage several projects at once, with minimal supervision
- Experience with digital fundraising and/or a global nonprofit is a plus
- Experience with Sprout Social, Canva, Adobe suite, and Smartsheet is a plus
- Willingness to occasionally work outside of normal business hours, when need arises (e.g., covering an after-hours event, responding to breaking news)

SALARY STATEMENT
The budgeted lifespan salary range for this position is $75,000 to $90,000 per year. Proffered salaries are determined by several factors including applicant’s knowledge, skills, experience, position, equity, and market.
