PURPOSE OF POSITION: Reporting directly to the CEO, the primary objective of the Chief 

Development Officer (CDO) is to increase revenue in a strategic manner that drives the mission 

of the United Way of Forsyth County. The CDO will lead the development and implementation 

of fundraising strategies that ensure organizational capacity to deliver on the ambitious goals of 

our strategic plan. The CDO ensures the effective execution and growth of the organization’s 

revenue generation through the engagement of donors and volunteers and the coordination of 

executive volunteer and staff efforts related to revenue generation activities. The CDO will 

work collaboratively with the Chief Marketing Officer who will lead planning and execution of 

all major events. 
 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 
 

1. Leads the organization’s revenue generation efforts. Responsible for generating a 

long-term strategic growth vision and developing and executing Board of Directors 

strategic plan in relation to revenue generation. The CDO is responsible for: 

a. Annual Campaign (Individual giving and employee giving) 
b. Corporate Giving 

c. Major Gifts (Tocqueville Society) 
d. Online Giving 
e. Planned Giving 
f. Principal Gifts 
g. Social Media Giving 

h. Text to Give 

 
2. Develops strategies for long-term revenue growth including: 

a. Attraction and engagement of new donors 
b. Attraction and engagement of new workplace campaigns 


c. Development of a six and seven figure giving program 
d. Reduction of donor-turnover 
e. Innovative new revenue generation 
f. Social enterprise revenue 
 

3. In concert with the CEO – recruits, trains, and directs Board level and executive 
 level fundraising volunteers. 

 
4. Recruit, develop, inspire, and lead the resource development staff team. 


5.Accountable for revenue growth on an annual and multi-year basis. 


6. Leads the organization’s efforts to maintain an effective and efficient donor database. 


 7. Ensures the organization maintains proper fundraising ethics. 


 8. Works closely with the workplace giving team to recruit, train, inspire and manage 

 workplace volunteers. 


 9. In coordination with the Leadership Team, is an integral part of the organization’s 

 externally facing strategy. Maintains quality year-round relationships with donors, 

 corporations, foundations, and vendors. 


 10. In concert with the CEO and Director of Strategic Communications and Public 

 Relations, provide direction for the organizations’ marketing, communication, PR, 

 social media, and special events. 


11. Directs the development and monitors the budget for Resource Development 

 Department. 


12. Serves as a member of the executive leadership team. 


13. Oversee the management and operations of the United Way of Forsyth County 

 Foundation.

campaign experience a plus. Planned giving experience desired. 

 • Proven track record of collaboration and an unwavering commitment and

Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, this role supervises four (4) team members, who manage their own corporate partner portfolios. Together, the entire team identifies, cultivates, solicits, and stewards corporate donors, as well as manages a robust workplace giving program. MGO will work closely with the Director, Major Gifts (DMG) to cultivate donors and prospects within the Major Gifts revenue streams: transformational giving, major gifts of $10k plus, planned giving, foundations, and capital campaign.&nbsp; STATEMENT OF THE JOB:
This role is accountable for achieving fundraising goals within a portfolio of corporate campaign accounts, individual donors of all levels, including major gifts, and other revenue sources, utilizing year-round strategies to build and maintain superior relationships, cultivate donors, and engage community members in the work of United Way of Greater Toledo to meet and exceed revenue goals.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
<ul><li>Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward donors and prospects through visits and other forms of direct personal contact in accordance with performance targets.</li>
<li>Inspire and mobilize individual and corporate donors to give, advocate, and volunteer by discovering their interests and proposing alignment with our mission and activities.</li>
<li>Utilize knowledge gathered from donor meetings to develop and implement year-round strategies to engage, cultivate, and steward individual, workplace, and corporate donors.</li>
<li>Develop and implement long-term strategies for building relationships, deepening engagement, and increasing revenue generation from a portfolio of major donors ($10,000+) and high-performing corporate partners.</li>
<li>Engage new or lapsed corporate partners and individual donor prospects by involving stakeholders with our work in creative and strategic ways.</li>
<li>Work with committees of volunteers to aid in donor prospecting and engagement efforts with corporations and individuals.</li>
<li>Deepen individual donor involvement through cultivation and solicitation of planned gifts.</li>
<li>Propose and execute on short-term and long-range strategic fund-raising goals and objectives.</li>
<li>Develop and manage volunteer and donor stewardship programs that help forward goals of the Resource Development team.</li>
<li>Attend and provide support to donor cultivation and fundraising events as needed.</li>
<li>Create and implement prospect research and cultivation strategies to maximize potential for corporate and individual giving.</li>
<li>Partner with Community Impact staff to understand current program innovations and align them with funding opportunities for donors and prospects.</li>
<li>Work with other departments to ensure cross-functional collaboration and information-sharing.</li>
<li>Maintain Andar database as a tool to help build relationships by keeping accurate and up-to-date account records.</li>
</ul><ul><li>Utilize Andar to support data-informed decision-making about workplace accounts and analyze donor information for trends, gaps, and opportunities for revenue growth.</li>
</ul><ul><li>Evaluate and assess current efforts and propose opportunities for progress and advancement.</li>
</ul>ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

</ul>QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
<ul><li>Bachelor’s degree with at least four (4) years’ experience in fundraising, sales, or relationship building (nonprofit fundraising preferred).</li>
<li>Experience building relationships with volunteers, donors, customers, or others.</li>
<li>Experience with managing multiple projects at one time.</li>
</ul><ul><li>Or, a comparable combination of education and work experience.</li>

<ul><li>Strong ability and interest in building relationships and working with people.</li>
<li>Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including public speaking and writing.</li>
