United Way Fox Cities is seeking a Controller to join our dynamic team. The Controller leads all aspects of the finance and accounting functions of United Way Fox Cities. Working collaboratively with the CEO, Finance Committee and Board of Directors, they provide professional accounting services and financial oversight to the organization. The Controller provides daily supervision of the finance department to ensure accountability and proper administration of the organization’s financial affairs in conformity with applicable business and regulatory standards. This role is viewed as a partner to the CEO and Executive Team on driving strategic initiatives to improve organizational effectiveness, efficiency, and sustainability.The ideal candidate will have experience with accounting and information systems. Officer will be committed to UWCI’s

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will 
be the organization’s chief finance 
executive with frequent Board 
engagement. In addition, they will 
guide the organization’s data and 
technology, donor services and 
project management for enterprise-
wide projects as UWCI runs close 
to 90 fundraising campaigns for 
companies, and processes all of 
the pledges made. 

As part of UWCI’s senior leadership 
team, the CFO will participate in 
shaping the strategic direction of 
the organization, leveraging best 
practices, managing cross-
functional organizational growth, 
and driving results that enhance 
cohesion across the organization. 
Moreover, they will actively play a 
key role in managing the 
complexities of a key funding 
organization in the community. 

The CFO will also be responsible for preparing the budget, interpreting and effectively communicating 
financial information and analysis. Building upon a solid financial foundation and positive momentum, 
the CFO will lead, and partner in evaluating financial health of funded partners, evaluating fundraising 
campaigns administered by UWCI, all with the goal of making greater impact in the community.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 
 • Lead and support United Way’s mission by guiding the tactical and strategic management of 

the finance function and other internal business operations to align with the execution of 
external organizational strategies in the five elements of a thriving community: Education 
Success, Early Childhood Success, Economic Opportunity, Health and Well-being and 
Essential Needs;

 • Guide UWCI’s development of the annual budget and multi-year planning, assuring the 
development of individual and departmental plans and budgets are consistent with the 
strategic imperative and overall budget;

 • Enhance and ensure sound business, risk management and financial systems policies, 
procedures and internal controls; ensure the accuracy of accounting and finance processes in 
compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and nonprofit best 
practices;

 • Develop accountability systems necessary to ensure that all organizational objectives are 
achieved;

 • Prepare financial information and recommendations utilizing forward-looking predictive models, 
data and activity based financial analysis;

 • Engage with the community and funded partners when support, knowledge and expertise is 
needed; often times other nonprofits seek the expertise of UWCI in times of financial challenge 
or needed growth or other types of needs. UWCI has roughly 125 funded partners and funds 
more than 200 programs within those funded partners;

 • Oversee, implement and maintain organizational governance measures and adherence to 
United Way Worldwide membership standards.

The ideal candidate will be a strong leader who brings people together and makes connections 
between the different aspects of UWCI’s work. It will be a person who understands the need to both 
lead and defer. They will also be a detailed-oriented leader who is able to effectively manage, engage 
and empower a team of four direct reports and an overall team of nine staff members to achieve 
results and drive business continuity. The CFO must be a continuous learner who has a consultative 
approach to problem solving. The CFO will have a strong work ethic, and a commitment to 
implementing integrated solutions that ensure the overall financial health of UWCI.

Location, Compensation &amp; Benefits 
 
This is a full-time, hybrid work environment. The successful candidate must be based in central Iowa. 
 

The annual salary for this role will be based on a range, starting at $150,000 - $175,000 and will be 
commensurate with the successful candidate’s skills and experience. UWCI also offers a generous 
benefits package and a hybrid work schedule of three days in the office and two remote workdays per 
week after 90 days of service. As a senior leader of the organization, the flexibility to adapt schedules 
to meet business needs is necessary.

</ul>WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to office work environment conditions. Internally controlled working environment with little or no hazardous conditions (e.g., fumes, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme heat/cold conditions, vibrations, and/or airborne particles) in normal work location. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate. Participation in early morning, evening and weekend meetings and events is required. The employee will frequently be required to utilize own transportation to travel throughout the Kennebec Valley region to visit with stakeholders. The employee will also be required to occasionally attend meetings and events out of the area.
Physical demands include:

Join us as the Finance Senior Manager
As a key member of our Finance team, you'll play a pivotal role in the timely and accurate management of financial processes, accounting, audits, and reporting. Your responsibilities will encompass a range of critical functions, from benefits administration to bank account reconciliations and tax returns. What You'll Do:
The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed. They are not intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties and skills required of personnel so classified. 
<ul><li>Oversee financial processes, including 401k audits, financial statement audits, and property tax filings, to ensure accuracy and compliance.</li>
</ul>Collaborate closely with our Talent Management team to manage benefits administration, open enrollment, and COBRA, ensuring our employees receive the support they need.
<ul><li>Process general ledger entries for employer-paid benefits and bi-weekly payroll</li>
<li>Prepare bi-weekly payroll and reconcile benefit and payroll-related general ledger accounts to maintain financial transparency and accuracy.</li>
<li>Ensure the timely reconciliation and submission of benefit invoices for payments.</li>
<li>Play a critical role in supporting auditors and tax preparers during benefit plan audits and related tax return filings, gaining valuable experience, and contributing to the success of our organization.</li>
</ul>Key Accounting Functions:
<ul><li>Conduct monthly bank statement reconciliations</li>
<li>Track and resolve outstanding checks</li>
<li>Manage fixed assets and prepaids</li>
<li>Prepare real and personal property tax returns</li>
<li>Collaborate with JumpIN to manage financials</li>
<li>Play a key role in assisting in CBO financial evaluation as needed</li>
<li>Provide necessary support to auditors and tax preparers for financial audits and the 990-tax return</li>
<li>Ability to generate requested ad-hoc reports through accounting systems</li>
<li>Be ready to take on special assignments and other tasks on an as-needed basis, showcasing your adaptability and problem-solving skills</li>
<li>Offer crucial backup for payment and pledge processing through the CRM system</li>
<li>Invest in your professional growth through development and continuing education opportunities, both internally and externally</li>
<li>Utilize the CRM system for effective reporting and tracking of pledges and gifts</li>

Education and/or Experience
<ul><li>Bachelor's degree in accounting or five years of relevant accounting experience.</li>
<li>Experience with Salesforce platform or CRM systems is preferred.</li>
<li>Five years of supervisory experience is desirable.</li>
<li>Proficiency in computer skills and attention to detail are essential.</li>
<li>Effective time management and multitasking abilities are required to meet deadlines.</li>
<li>Strong organizational and interpersonal skills are crucial for success.</li>
</ul>Note: Work experience may be considered as a substitute for educational requirements on a case-by-case basis.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
In addition to these qualifications, this role also includes supervisory responsibilities. The selected candidate will oversee the CRM Team, which consists of three team members responsible for audit and pledge processing, donor designated gifts, and accounts receivable.
