United Way Miami, Inc. is hiring a VP, Major Gifts to join our team. As VP, Major Gifts you will lead, inspire, and strategically manage the Development team and related strategies to significantly increase contributions to support our community's health and human service needs. This role drives growth in key areas such as the Tocqueville Society, Major Gifts, Planned Giving, and Endowment Gifts, with a particular focus on data-driven donor targeting and segmentation. The position requires close collaboration with Finance on budgeting, forecasting, and team management, as well as direct involvement in securing six-figure and higher gifts to meet an annual fundraising goal of at least $3 million. Work closely with internal teams to optimize development initiatives efforts. Develop and cultivate relationships in the community that enhance the visibility of our work and help create opportunities to develop partnerships.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Successfully drive all aspects of individual giving at United Way, ensuring the team is motivated, encouraged, and has the tools needed to deliver against goals.
  • Provide strategic direction, oversee and manage all components of individual giving, including major gifts, planned giving, and endowment efforts, and ensure the team has the data, discipline, and systems in place to meet objectives and reach fundraising goals.
  • Oversee and manage data analysis and segmentation efforts to improve donor targeting, ensuring informed strategies for major gifts, planned giving, and endowment efforts.
  • Collaborate closely with Finance on budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning to ensure alignment between development strategies and organizational financial goals.
  • Manage and execute the process of administering all aspects of UW’s Tocqueville Society, Million Dollar Roundtable, Endowment, and Planned Giving strategies including prospecting, solicitation, stewardship, retention, and growth of relationships.
  • Oversee successful implementation of recognition strategies while ensuring all related financial goals are reached or surpassed.
  • Refresh and deliver goals and activities for our Endowment work including campaign (when applicable), professional advisor network, Continue United, and further leverage Loyal Contributor programs to serve as feeders into the Tocqueville Society
  • Personally participate in the identification, cultivation, and solicitation of prospects.
  • Manage a portfolio of major gift donors and prospects.
  • Provide staff support and leadership to assigned volunteers and committees.
  • Work with appropriate internal teams on the development of campaign materials, collateral, and engagement strategies to support overall fund- and friend-raising efforts.
  • Serve as one of the formal liaisons with key external stakeholders, including the Chamber and Beacon Council.
  • Responsible for the supervision of subordinate employees which includes training, developing, measuring performance, disciplining, and directing tasks. Has authority to hire, transfer, promote, compensate, or terminate subordinate employees or recommend such actions.

Requirements

Education Requirements: Master’s degree or equivalent experience.

Experience Requirements: Minimum of 10 years experience in a professional environment with senior fundraising management experience, with a strong emphasis on Major Gifts and Endowment campaigns. Strong experience in data analysis, segmentation, and donor targeting. Proven experience managing high-level relationships and securing six-figure gifts or more. Demonstrated expertise in building and executing fundraising strategies across individual giving, planned giving, and major donor engagement.

Experience working with high-net-worth individuals, corporate partners, and foundations, with a track record of relationship-building and donor cultivation.

Technology Requirements: Intermediate knowledge of modern web browsers, Intermediate Microsoft, Intermediate Andar or CRM system

Other Essential Knowledge/Skills: Excellent customer service abilities good writing skills, public speaking skills, organizational skills, good judgment about people, and supervisory skills. The Spanish language is not a requirement but helpful.
