Position Title Vice President of Development

Department Development Reports To – President & CEO

FLSA Status – Exempt Classification – Full Time UWW Code -

Position Summary: The Vice President of Development serves as a key strategic leader, guiding the Development Team in designing, implementing, and supporting all fundraising initiatives for the Community Foundation and United Way of Volusia-Flagler Counties (CF/UWVFC). This position provides vision, direction, and oversight for all development activities — including annual campaigns, major gifts, planned giving, and community engagement — to achieve organizational, departmental, and individual goals. The VP of Development ensures alignment with the organization’s strategic plan, fosters a culture of philanthropy, and equips the team to prioritize efforts that maximize impact.

CF/UWVFC professionals are expected to model and champion the organization’s core competencies: mission-focused, relationship-oriented, collaborator, results-driven, and brand steward.

Duties and Responsibilities: Drives Revenue & Impact
• Develop and communicate the strategy and vision for organizational fundraising campaigns, aligning annual development goals with the strategic plan.
• Guide the Development Team in setting goals, prioritizing tasks, and managing resources to meet revenue targets and advance mission impact.
• Utilize the CSuite database to record, monitor, and evaluate donor engagement activities.
• Support fund development presentations and donor engagement strategies, including Foundation products and planned giving efforts.
• Cultivate relationships with community groups to identify prospective donors and campaign leads.

Strategic Relationship Building
• Build and deepen relationships with donors and prospects year-round, connecting their interests to the organization’s work.
• Expand the network of donors by maintaining a strong presence in the community.
• Collaborate with staff, board, and volunteers to align efforts and communicate progress toward goals.

Effective & Engaging Communicator
• Present the CF/UWVFC message to businesses, employees, and community groups.
• Listen to donors’ and prospects’ interests to match them with meaningful giving opportunities.
• Assist in developing marketing materials to share organizational impact.
• Provide leadership and support for Women United chapters in Flagler and Volusia.

Team Leadership & Emotional Intelligence
• Model emotional maturity, professionalism, and resilience in a fast-paced, goal-driven environment.
• Lead, coach, and motivate a team with diverse personalities and skill sets, fostering collaboration and accountability.
• Help team members focus on priorities that achieve annual goals and contribute to long-term strategy.
• Promote a positive, inclusive culture that supports professional development and high performance.

• Work with leadership and volunteers to implement new strategies for workplace campaigns and fund development.
• Encourage creativity and community collaboration to meet organizational goals.
• Practice effective donor stewardship by thanking, informing, and engaging donors in the impact of their gifts.

Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in related field or seven to ten years of relevant experience.
• Proven ability to set strategy, articulate vision, and translate big-picture goals into actionable plans.
• Demonstrated emotional maturity and sound judgment in decision-making and communication.
• Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and guide a team toward results.
• Excellent organizational and project management skills, including prioritization of competing demands.
• Exceptional verbal, written, and presentation skills.
• Ability to establish relationships with corporations, businesses, and donors.
• High degree of professional integrity to handle confidential information ethically.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and donor database systems.
• Valid driver’s license and access to an insured motor vehicle.

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements: Work is carried out in a controlled, agreeable environment as generally represented by normal office conditions. Employees may be required to assist with or attend various offsite events related to programs or fund raising that are scheduled evenings and/or weekends. These events may require several hours on your feet and assisting with heavy lifting and carrying.
