
Senior Donor Relations Manager, Individual and Planned Giving
The Senior Donor Relations Manager plays a key role in driving individual and planned giving strategies while managing donor engagement and stewardship efforts. This position is responsible for cultivating relationships with donors, financial advisors, and legal professionals to facilitate charitable giving through estate planning methods such as wills, trusts, life insurance policies, or annuities. The role requires strong relationship-building skills, financial knowledge, and expertise in the legal and tax implications of charitable giving.
A component of this position includes managing Stay United, an exclusive affinity group for retirees who want to continue their community impact and maintain their network during retirement. Responsibilities related to Stay United include donor cultivation, engagement, and stewardship to support fundraising efforts. Additionally, the Senior Donor Relations Manager will collaborate with the Vice President of Individual and Major Giving and the resource development team to implement donor engagement strategies and achieve United Way’s broader fundraising goals. This includes setting and achieving annual fundraising targets, donor acquisition, retention, and growth across various giving initiatives.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITESFundraising:
- Set and achieve goals for the Stay United membership group. Goals will include overall dollars raised, donor retention, donor acquisition, and donor growth.
- Develop and track key performance metrics to assess success within planned giving and affinity group strategies.
- Work closely with the resource development team and volunteers to ensure coordination of fundraising efforts.
- Craft fundraising strategies for individuals within affinity group and facilitate moves management.
- Set and achieve fundraising goals for individual and planned giving, including donor retention, acquisition, and growth.
Donor Engagement and Stewardship:
- Responsible for creating and driving innovative strategies that will optimize donor experiences for members of the Stay United affinity group. Strategies will include designing and managing programs and events that promote engagement, while creating meaningful opportunities for donors to connect with United Way’s mission.
- Work cross-functionally within the resource development team to ensure the execution of dynamic events that engage existing members while also appealing to prospects and potential new members.
- Provide personalized stewardship and recognition strategies for planned giving donors and affinity group members, ensuring they feel valued and engaged in United Way’s mission.
Volunteer Management and Stewardship:
- Manage the Stay United affinity group committees and volunteer leadership structures.
- Provide meaningful and substantive leadership opportunities for volunteers. Recruit volunteers to participate in the UWSA leadership structure, including all Committee Chairs and Steering Committee members.
- Facilitate committee meetings and provide guidance, strategic insights, and data-driven analysis to volunteer leaders.
- Responsible for all administrative duties necessary for the efficient management of the Stay United volunteer group and committees.
- Inspire, motivate, and create opportunities that empower volunteers to achieve their goals.
- Be knowledgeable about UWSA work in the Bexar County area and be an effective and compelling communicator of UWSA’s positive community impact.
- Work with Marketing Department to develop materials, website content and social media tailored for Stay United and Planned Giving efforts, utilize a variety of print and electronic mediums to educate and cultivate year-round relationships between the donors and United Way.
Data Management:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date donor records within the CRM system to track donor interactions, contributions, and engagement history.
- Utilize data analysis to inform and refine donor cultivation and stewardship strategies
- Generate reports and insights to assess fundraising performance and identify opportunities for growth.
- Ensure best practices in data management, donor segmentation, and moves management.
- Bachelor’s degree – required / master’s degree – preferred.
- Five to seven years professional work experience desired, with two or more years previous experience in a fundraising, business development, or sales
- Demonstrated history of successful fundraising, sales, or relevant experience along with strategy development, preferably in a nonprofit fundraising organization. Experience with planned giving preferred
- Demonstrated capability to identify, cultivate and solicit gifts from individuals, corporations and private foundations preferred. Staff and volunteer management.
- Experience with CRM/database management preferred.
- Experience in using virtual platforms for presentations and/or setting
- Knowledge of and experience with the San Antonio and Bexar County philanthropic community desired.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, data management and analysis, planning, project management and performance evaluation skills required.
