HISTORY AND MEMBERSHIP

In 1940, the first fundraising campaign for the Community Chest of San Antonio raised $325,517. In 1973, the organization was renamed to United Way of San Antonio to reflect an expanded role as a catalyst of community change. Today, United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County receives grants and fundraises more than $45 million each year to support programs that prepare young children for life, help students succeed, foster self-sufficiency for individuals and families, and support people in crisis.
