United Way of Tri-County is seeking its next President and Chief Executive Officer at a pivotal moment of opportunity and impact. This role calls for an accomplished, mission-driven executive who can inspire philanthropy, strengthen partnerships, and lead the organization into its next chapter of growth and community service.

About the Position

The CEO will work in close partnership with the Board, staff, donors, corporate partners, community leaders, and volunteers to advance United Way of Tri-County’s mission and strengthen its long-term community impact.

Strategic Leadership and Organizational Management

  • Set a clear strategic direction and align people, programs, and resources around shared goals.
  • Provide executive leadership for daily operations, decision-making, and performance across UWOTC and its food security locations.
  • Position the organization for sustainable growth, operational excellence, and continued community impact.

Resource Development and Community Partnerships

  • Lead resource development efforts and cultivate philanthropy across individual, corporate, and community relationships.
  • Build and strengthen partnerships that expand UWOTC’s reach, influence, and capacity to serve the region.

Where We Are Located:

Greater Framingham is the economic and cultural hub of Massachusetts' MetroWest region, located approximately 20 miles west of Boston and within easy reach of both Worcester and the Greater Boston metropolitan areas. The region combines suburban quality of life with strong transportation access, including major highways, commuter rail service, and proximity to Logan International Airport. Framingham itself is home to approximately 73,000 residents and serves a broader MetroWest population of more than 200,000 across neighboring communities. The area is notably diverse, with a large international population and vibrant immigrant communities, contributing to a rich multicultural environment. Overall, Greater Framingham offers an attractive blend of economic opportunity, cultural diversity, strong public services, and community engagement.

Essential Duties and Impact Areas

The CEO will provide enterprise-wide leadership across the following core areas:

Community Leadership:

  • Provide transformational leadership that advances measurable community impact across the MetroWest/495 Corridor region.
  • Engage community partners in alignment with United Way Worldwide’s Standards of Excellence and commitment to advancing the common good.
  • Serve as a visible and credible spokesperson for the organization.
  • Model United Way values by stewarding inclusive community processes that engage people of diverse backgrounds in shaping solutions that improve lives.

Organizational Leadership:

  • Partner with the Board to shape key strategic issues for review, discussion, and decision-making, ensuring organizational activities remain aligned with strategic priorities.
  • Oversee the development of long-range goals, annual work plans, and budgets that support progress toward organizational goals.
  • Ensure the organization anticipates and responds effectively to internal and external factors that influence success.
  • Assess organizational capacity, identify gaps in systems and staffing, and develop contingency and succession plans.

Resource Development, Stewardship, and Talent Leadership:

  • Work with senior staff to advance organizational goals, integrate annual work plans with the strategic plan, and ensure planned outcomes are achieved.
  • Lead diversified fundraising strategies, including annual campaigns, corporate and retail solicitation, special events, grant writing, and government funding.
  • Ensure strong stewardship and accountability for financial, facility, and operational resources.
  • Strengthen integrated support systems across information management, staff and volunteer training, procurement, personnel, and facilities while ensuring community investment remains focused on priority needs, including food security, information and referral, youth programming, and early childhood literacy.
  • Oversee strategies to diversify and sustain revenue, deepen direct donor relationships, and staff the organization with capable professionals who are empowered through clear delegation of responsibility and authority.
  • Advance the organization’s goals for inclusiveness and diversity among staff and volunteers.
  • Build effective communications within and among departments to assure understanding and support for organizational objectives and activities.
  • Ensure effective performance planning and evaluation systems for all employees.

Accountability for Operations and Fiscal Integrity:

  • Maintain stewardship and accountability for overall operations and fiscal integrity in accordance with United Way Worldwide’ s Standards of Excellence and policies established by the Board of Directors.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • A bachelor’s degree from a four-year accredited college or university is required; an advanced degree or equivalent training or experience is preferred in business, public administration, or social services.
  • 10+ years of progressive executive leadership experience in the nonprofit or for-profit sector, including professional or volunteer leadership within the health and human services field.
  • Proven fundraising experience securing significant philanthropic, corporate, and institutional financial support.
  • Experience leading strategic planning and implementation.
  • Demonstrated success in fiscal management, budget oversight, and compliance.
  • Proficiency in data analytics and impact measurement in the nonprofit sector.
  • Public advocacy experience at the local, state, and federal levels.
  • Successful grant writing and food service management experience are preferred.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Open and participative management style.
  • Ability to work successfully with diverse groups and across multiple generations.
  • Demonstrable integrity and accountability in leadership roles.

Work Environment

This is an on-site position based at 46 Park Street, Framingham, MA 01702, with regular office hours of 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Some evening, weekend, and other off-hours work is routinely expected. Limited hybrid flexibility may be available.

Compensation and Benefits

United Way of Tri-County offers a competitive annual salary range of $185,000 to $225,000, with final compensation determined by factors such as the candidate’s knowledge, skills, experience, internal equity, and market conditions. The organization also provides a comprehensive benefits package designed to support your health, financial well-being, and work-life balance. Benefits include 75% employer-paid medical coverage, available dental coverage, a SEP retirement plan with an employer contribution equal to 9% of salary, two weeks of sick leave, three personal days, 13 paid holidays, a tax-deferred annuity (TDA), life insurance, short- and long-term disability coverage, and a BJ’s membership. Relocation assistance may be negotiated if needed.
