Monadnock Housing Collaborative

Program Manager
August 2025

Position Overview

Monadnock United Way (MUW) is seeking an entrepreneurial community builder and systems thinker to launch and grow the Monadnock Housing Collaborative (MHC)—a new regional coalition advancing housing opportunities for all. This is a unique opportunity to build something from the ground up: shaping a cross-sector network, guiding strategy, and mobilizing people around one of our region’s most urgent challenges.

The Program Manager will help drive change by fostering community involvement and advocacy at local and state levels to reduce barriers and improve the supply and diversity of housing in the Monadnock Region.

The successful candidate brings both vision and practicality, balancing long-term systems change with immediate, tangible action. This role requires a natural convener that thrives in dynamic environments and has a passion for connecting people, programs, and ideas to create solutions with lasting impact.

This role reports to MUW’s President and is central to MUW’s commitment to regional vitality.

About the Monadnock Housing Collaborative

MHC is a regional initiative convened by MUW, Southwest Region Planning Commission, and Monadnock Interfaith Project. With 30+ active partners spanning health, education, construction, environmentalism, economic development, government, philanthropy, and grassroots leadership, MHC’s mission is to advance inclusive housing through education, engagement, and advocacy. Our multi-pronged approach integrates policy advocacy, stakeholder engagement, and innovative solutions grounded in both local and national best practices.

Key Responsibilities

Program Leadership & Strategy

  • Partner with MHC’s Leadership Team and Advisory Council to update and drive a living strategic plan.
  • Strengthen governance with the Advisory Council, fostering their continued engagement as ambassadors and thought leaders.
  • Build and maintain a collaborative infrastructure that supports cross-communication, shared learning, and effective partnerships (e.g., communication systems, meeting schedules, and reporting mechanisms).

Community Building & Partnerships

  • Build and maintain relationships with municipal leaders, nonprofits, developers, employers, grassroots coalitions, and statewide coalitions.
  • Serve as the point person for housing solutions in the Monadnock Region, fostering collaboration across local coalitions and workgroups.
  • Serve as facilitator for coalition workgroups (e.g., Regulatory Reform, Entrepreneurial Solutions, Community Engagement).
  • Expand and mobilize volunteer networks, empowering residents to engage in housing solutions.
  • Ensure diverse community voices are included in decision-making.

Communications & Storytelling

  • Act as spokesperson for MHC at convenings, public forums, and community events.
  • Collect and share stories that illustrate both the housing crisis and innovative local solutions.
  • Develop content and manage communications platforms (website, newsletters, social media, public updates).

Operations & Resource Development

  • Manage daily operations of MHC.
  • Establish annual workplans, track progress on goals, and ensure accountability to grant deliverables and key outcomes.
  • Partner with MUW staff on funding opportunities, including grant writing and reporting.

Personal Attributes

The ideal candidate is:

  • A community weaver and systems thinker.
  • Skilled at facilitating dialogue among people with differing views.
  • Entrepreneurial and resourceful, with a proactive, action-oriented approach.
  • Organized, detail-minded, and able to balance multiple priorities.
  • A strong listener with a collaborative leadership style.
  • Passionate about access to housing and regional vitality.
