Improving quality of life and advancing the greater good involves focusing in four impact areas: preparing children for kindergarten; empowering students to graduate and reach their full potential; helping individuals and families become self-sufficient; providing a safety net of services for those in crisis.JOB SUMMARYThe Grants Manager is responsible for the full lifecycle of grant management to support United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County’s strategic plan for growing and diversifying funding sources. This includes grant prospecting, writing, budgeting, compliance, reporting, and strategic alignment of funding opportunities with organizational priorities. The position requires strong analytical, writing, and project management skills, as well as the ability to lead cross-departmental collaboration to ensure effective grant acquisition and management. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES
  • Identify and research potential funding opportunities from private foundations, corporations, and other entities that align with UWSA’s mission and strategic priorities.
  • Develop and implement a strategic grants calendar and prospect pipeline to guide annual revenue planning.
  • Analyze funding trends and recommend strategies for diversification and sustainability of grant revenue.
  • Build and maintain relationships with current and prospective funders, coordinating follow-up communications and stewardship activities.
  • Lead the development, writing, and submission of competitive grant proposals, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and funder requirements.
  • Collaborate with program and finance teams to create accurate budgets, narratives, and required attachments.
  • Review grant agreements to identify financial, legal, and compliance requirements; advise leadership on feasibility and implementation.
  • Maintain a repository of organizational materials, financial documents, and proposal templates for efficient proposal development.
  • Oversee post-award financial and programmatic compliance, ensuring alignment with approved budgets, timelines, and performance goals.
  • Monitor grant expenditures in coordination with finance and program teams, ensuring appropriateness of costs.
  • Prepare and submit timely and accurate progress, financial, and final reports to funders.
  • Coordinate grant closeout procedures and ensure all reporting, documentation, and recordkeeping are completed according to funder and organizational standards.
  • Serve as the primary advisor on grant compliance, budget management, and reporting requirements.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of internal processes, tools, and policies to strengthen grants management.
  • Maintain comprehensive grant files to ensure documentation integrity and audit readiness.
  • Collaborate with finance to ensure proper documentation of revenue recognition and contractual obligations.
  • Partner with program, finance, and leadership teams to align funding opportunities with organizational priorities and capacity.
  • Provide training and technical assistance to staff on grant compliance, reporting, and documentation standards.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
  • Two to five years of experience in a grant writing role, preferably in a nonprofit environment.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES INFORMATION
  • Proficiency in developing and managing budgets for medium and large grants (six figures and above).
  • Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office with expertise in Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Superior organization skills.
  • Strong organizational skills that reflect the ability to seamlessly perform and prioritize multiple tasks with excellent attention to detail.
  • Very strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with stakeholders, including staff, board members, external partners, and donors.
  • Expert-level written and verbal communication skills.
  • Highly resourceful team player, with the ability to be extremely effective independently.

  • Competent with Adobe Products Suite, preferred.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
