The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for Trident United Way is accountable for the administrative, financial, legal, and risk management operations of the organization, including the development of a financial and operational strategy, metrics tied to that strategy, and the ongoing development and monitoring of control systems designed to preserve organization assets and report accurate financial results. The CFO also oversees facilities management, operations, and IT support strategies.As the financial leader of the organization, the CFO will serve as a valued member of the executive management team. The CFO will directly influence and participate in the day-to-day operations, budgets and long-range planning for the organization. The CFO will have overarching responsibility for accounting, internal and grant-related financial reporting and legal compliance, short- and long-term financial planning, budgeting, audit, forecasting and analysis, tax and treasury operations.&nbsp;The CFO serves in an advisory capacity to the CEO and Board of Directors providing strategic leadership where needed. Working in tandem with the other executives, the CFO collaboratively develops and implements the organization’s short-term and long-term financial operating model. The CFO provides organizational and functional leadership and direction with regard to all finance related activities, guided by a commitment to providing timely, accurate and high quality information and service. The CFO will be a critical thought partner to the organization’s program, marketing, technology, talent management, and fundraising functions.RESPONSIBILITIESThe major responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:Planning<ol><li>Develops and evaluates short and long-term strategic financial objectives for the organization, ensuring always that they are aligned with overall strategy and mission.&nbsp;</li><li>Partners with members of the executive team to establish economic, financial and strategic objectives, to implement organizational strategy, and to oversee mission critical projects and initiatives.&nbsp;</li><li>Manages the budget and financial forecasts processes. Leads the budgeting and financial forecasting processes, as well as institutes and maintains other planning and control procedures.</li><li>Collaborates and provides leadership with community impact and fundraising staff in the development and pricing of community impact products that are responsive to donors’ needs and interests and that capture and reflect accurately both the programmatic and actual costs to create, manage, and oversee these programs.</li><li>Is adept at evaluating ROI and key process indicators for various resource development practices, strategies and programs and provides leadership to prioritize efforts and deploy staff and financial resources.</li></ol>Operations<ol><li>Oversees accounting and finance staff and related activities to ensure effective and efficient processes for all financial transactions which operate within established internal controls and allow for timely and accurate financial reporting.</li><li>Monitors and ensures the adequacy of cash.&nbsp;</li><li>Staffs and maintains relations with Chairs and members of the Finance, Audit, Investment, and HR &amp; Governance Committees under the CFO’s portfolio. Develops relationships with other committee and board members in order to serve their fiduciary oversight needs.</li><li>Is adept at managing the financial complexity of both unrestricted and restricted (designated) revenue streams. Understands the need to work with companies, donors, and public sector environments in an effort to: maintain these relationships; engage those donors and workplaces; effectively capture our costs related to these activities; and to measure progress in encouraging support for Trident United Way’s impact work.</li><li>Develops, instructs, directs, motivates, and supports staff across the organization but most directly within the function(s) s/he leads.</li><li>Demonstrates commitment to the effective use of technology within the financial functions of the organization, always ensuring that computers, databases, programs, and servers are functioning appropriately, safely and in accordance with contracts.</li></ol>Financial Information<ol><li>Provides timely and accurate analyses and financial reporting in order to ensure the highest level of financial oversight by executives and board members.&nbsp;</li><li>Interprets statistical and accounting information to assess operating results in terms of performance against budget, cash flow projections, long term sustainability, and the operating effectiveness of the organization.&nbsp;</li><li>Collaborates with program and fundraising staff to prepare grant applications and create budgets and reports. Understands requirements of governmental grants including reporting, federal and state contracting processes, and regulations, manages grants effectively and ensures that the organization complies with requirements, and successfully completes government audits. Meets with potential donors/funders on an “as needed” basis to address financial questions raised by these stakeholders.</li></ol>Risk Management<ol><li>Safeguards the organization’s assets, including the community fiduciary and brand trust.&nbsp;</li><li>Builds and maintains high levels of credibility for the CFO position and staff under s/he management within the organization, the executive team, and board communities, and other external constituencies.</li><li>Develops and maintains systems of internal controls, including evaluating and implementation of financial policies, procedures and standards designed to preserve organizational assets. Ensures that the Enterprise Risk Management function is operating effectively to protect organizational assets.</li><li>Ensures compliance across the organization with governance requirements and applicable local and international regulatory laws, rules for financial and tax reporting, and UWW membership compliance and reporting – unafraid to take action where non-compliance is identified.&nbsp;</li></ol>QUALIFICATIONSEducationDesirable, But Not Required<ul><li>MBA or CPA&nbsp;</li><li>Previous experience in mid to large United Way Member organization.</li><li>Understands the local community and the unique challenges and opportunities available</li></ul>Skills and Experience<ul><li>Bachelor’s degree,</li><li>10+ years of financial management experience in complex non-profit and/or for-profit sectors</li><li>Background in complex organizations of commensurate size and scope.</li><li>Extensive finance and cash flow management experience.&nbsp;</li><li>Skilled at effectively presenting information and ideas to executive teams, volunteers, and board of directors.</li><li>Passion for the mission and values of United Way.</li><li>Ability to earn the confidence and respect of stakeholders.</li><li>Recognized as a collaborative, motivational, supportive, and visionary leader.</li><li>Outstanding interpersonal, coaching, and listening skills, with the ability to communicate positively within all levels of the organization.</li><li>Demonstrate ability to remain objective, be discrete, and exercise common sense always. JOB SUMMARY
This position is responsible for the development and management of a comprehensive, strategic, integrated effort to build the base of individual Palmetto Society donors ($1,000 and up) and Tocqueville donors ($10,000 and up) and increase their level of support through annual giving at Trident United Way (TUW).
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Essential Function 1:
Identify, cultivate and steward multi-year top tier donors ($10,000 and up) and engage donors in multi-year step-up programs,
Essential Function 2:
Identify, cultivate, solicit and steward leadership gift donors ($1,000 and up) to achieve the goal approved by the Board of Directors for outside the workplace campaigns.
Essential Function 3:
Support and staff a volunteer Palmetto Steering Committee to identify, cultivate and steward individuals in order to develop resources by filling the key positions of regional chairs, leadership-level giving chairs, and at-large steering committee members as identified in the Palmetto Society Business Plan.
Essential Function 4:
Provide strategy and guidance to the Events Coordinator to plan events designed to recruit, cultivate and/or steward leadership-level gift donors and/ qualified donor prospects through regional events as identified in the Advancement Plan.
Essential Function 5:
Work in collaboration with Corporate Advancement Officers to identify leadership donor prospects from the workplace campaigns and create and implement engagement strategy for reaching out to those donors.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
<ul><li>Work with and effectively manage high level volunteers to engage prospects.</li>
<li>Input, track, and monitor donor touchpoints, gifts and accomplishments through Andar database and prepare required reports.</li>
<li>Collaborate with Communications and Advancement teams to develop fundraising materials and communications.</li>
<li>Bring donor thoughts and reaction back to the organization and provide constructive feedback to the Community Impact and Marketing departments.</li>
<li>Support interdepartmental team leaders with strategy and project management.</li>
<li>Support Vice President of Advancement with Workplace Campaign Meetings, as requested.</li>
<li>Participate in all TUW events and activities demonstrating the ability to be a good colleague, proactive collaborator and team builder.</li>
<li>Function as an integral member of the Advancement team assisting with planning, solicitation, implementation and evaluation.</li>
<li>Participates as a champion, project lead, and/or member of organizational development teams as required.</li>
<li>Work outside normal office hours when required to include evenings or weekends and additional hours during peak times.</li>
