THE OPPORTUNITY: The Director of Finance will be a strategic thought partner reporting to the CFO, working on-site at our Manchester, NH office. As the Director of Finance, you will play a critical role in partnering with the executive leadership team to drive operations as Granite United Way continues to enhance its quality programming and build capacity. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Financial Reporting & Accounting Operations

  • Support the preparation, presentation, and management of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, including analysis of the Statement of Activities, Balance Sheet, and cash flow.
  • Direct and occasionally perform day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable and accounts receivable. Responsible for the reconciliation of general ledger accounts, including grant accounting.
  • Ensure that the billing and collection schedule is adhered to and that financial data and cash flow are steady and support operational requirements.
  • Understand and help manage cash flow and banking relationships to meet operational and strategic needs.
  • Prepare the annual fiscal year budget along with the CFO
  • Staff the GUW Finance Committee and Audit Committee, along with the CFO

Grant Financial Management

  • Collaborate with program directors to manage grant accounting and track expenditures by programs and other funding sources.
  • Ensure accurate recording, reconciliation, and maintenance of all grant financial activity.
  • Work with CFO to ensure annual preparation of SEFA.

Compliance, Policies & Internal Controls

  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and other regulatory requirements.
  • Improve and monitor financial policies and internal controls.
  • Remain up to date on nonprofit audit best practices and state and federal laws regarding nonprofit operations.

Audit & Regulatory Reporting

  • Coordinate the annual audit process in partnership with the CFO.
  • Co-direct audits, tax filings, and other financial reporting requirements, working closely with external auditors, the finance committee, the audit committee, and regulatory agencies.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • A bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance, required.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in financial management, with at least 3 years of progressive experience in a leadership role (preferably in a nonprofit organization with a budget of at least $10 million).
  • Experience managing finance and accounting software systems, including reporting, compliance, and audit functions (Sage Intacct preferred).
  • Experience in a nonprofit setting, required.
  • Familiarity with accounting software, including reporting, compliance, and audit functions (Sage Intacct preferred).
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications such as Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong relationship-building abilities, with the capacity to prioritize, negotiate, and work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across departments and with staff at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong financial, analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities, with careful attention to detail and a commitment to transparency and accountability.
  • Demonstrated ability to set priorities and manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Required personal qualities include: Integrity, humility, credibility, and a strong dedication to the mission of Granite United Way.

Preferred

  • Master’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field, or CPA certification.
  • Experience in federal and/or state grant management, including grant accounting, compliance, and reporting.
  • Ability to translate financial concepts and effectively collaborate with programmatic and fundraising colleagues who may not have finance backgrounds.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
