The Director of Philanthropy will have primary responsibility to achieve established monetary and 
audit goals according to established timeline. The Director will grow revenue through 
workplace/employee, corporate, and individual giving; corporate engagement, including affinity 
groups and development services and sponsorships. The Director will expand and diversify donor 
base/pipeline and work closely with other team members to secure funding for current and 
emerging needs/initiatives.

community aspirations to United Way products/solutions. Measure and track donor and

Grants

and coordination of grant-related meetings to ensure all staff understand their roles in the 
application process. Will serve as lead for a portion of United Way grant applications 
ensuring full organizational integration, including support from other senior staff and/or

Staff Leadership and Management 

ï· Recruit, supervise, and manage qualified and dedicated staff within UWEPC Philanthropy 
Department. 

ï· Plan and coordinate ongoing professional development and appropriate skills training for 
staff on pertinent topics. 

ï· Lead and guide team members in strategically developing and building awareness of 
services related to addressing community needs. 

ï· Supervise and manage staff workloads and performance plans. 

ï· Provide strategic focus for the team, including encouraging collaboration between 
initiatives and partners. 

 
Community Partnerships 

ï· Maintain working knowledge of all UWEPC programs, engagement and initiatives to serve 
as a strong representative and advocate for the organization. 

ï· Seek and maintain strong community partnerships with local service providers and 
potential supporters. 

ï· Cultivate a strong collaborative of response and engagement by convening partners to 
assess community needs and strategically provide services in collaboration with partners. 

ï· Participate in recurring program and strategic meetings to assist in shaping the vision of 
UWEPC Community Impact products and partnerships. 

ï· Advocate for UWEPC Community Impact products with community partners and 
stakeholders. Research new programs and services that may be relevant to the mission 
and values of UWEPC. 

ï· Develop and cultivate successful business/personal relationships with key employees and 
CEO, including elected officials and key County and City staff. 

ï· Facilitate relationships with partners for direct services and programming to clients 
including MOUs, reporting, and information sharing.

Minimum Qualifications--Experience/Position Requirements 

Bachelor’s degree in subjects related to health and human services, non-profit or organizational 
management, public relations, communications, marketing, or social services, plus seven (7) 
years of work experience and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience related 
to the duties of the position. Master’s degree in Public Administration, Health &amp; Human Services, 
Communications, or Business Administration preferred. 

Knowledge of the non-profit and social services sector is essential. Preference will be given to 
individuals who can demonstrate knowledge of CRM software and data entry. Skills in grant-
writing, grant management, personnel management, program development and operation, 
leadership, strategic planning, management of sub-contractors and partnerships, and volunteer 
engagement are desired. 

Analytical and decision-making skills and an ability to anticipate and develop appropriate 

recommendations consistent with the desired work environment. Leadership, strategic vision and 

big picture perspective. 

Excellent verbal and written communication skills and an ability to create the internal 

communication systems needed to engage and build staff ownership of the organization’s goals 

and objectives at all levels of the organization. Business perceptive and creative, innovative,

POSITION SUMMARY / OVERVIEW OF RESPONSIBILITIES:The CEO is the leader of the organization, establishing a vision through collaboration with community leaders, volunteers and staff. The vision should build upon our existing framework of community impact through the efforts of a diverse team of committed leaders, staff and volunteers. In this position, the CEO must be able to build upon existing relationships as well as be innovative in finding new networks across the private, public and corporate sectors to improve conditions in the community by increasing resources and financial support for the United Way of Anderson County. The CEO will need to understand contemporary work force practices leading with knowledge, compassion, and the ability to coalesce a team toward a successful visionary strategic plan. And this work requires a leader with great integrity, understanding the value of growing and protecting the reputation and brand of United Way.&nbsp;KEY RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL DUTIES OF POSITION:An individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each essential duty listed below as well as others not yet known:Community ImpactThe CEO is responsible for the overall successful impact of United Way of Anderson County with the community, with emphasis on increasing its capacity to drive the impact agenda. The strategy to achieve this increased impact is developed and adapted in close collaboration with the Board. This impact can only occur with increased support and funding which will happen as the CEO maintains existing relationships while building new relationships with key leaders in the community from the business, government and non-profit sectors.Resource DevelopmentThe CEO will have the skills and experience that will drive results in fundraising. S/he maintains accountability for the operational and fiscal integrity of the organization within policies set by the Board of Directors as well as leading fiscal management of organizational spending, monitor budget compliance and mitigate financial risks. The CEO assesses organizational capacity to implement strategies and identify gaps in systems and staffing. S/he directly supervises key positions and establishes individual goals and ensures appropriate development as needed. The CEO ensures that United Way of Anderson County’s goals of inclusiveness and values all staff and volunteers alike.
