This communication will require problem solving and follow-up services. This position will be cross-trained to 
facilitate 988 (formerly known as the Suicide Hotline) and Mission United (veteran-focused) calls and will also 
be required to complete associated certifications within three months of being eligible (Inform USA certified as 
well as additional 988-related trainings). 

 
Key Responsibilities/Essential Functions 

• Provides high quality Information and Referral Services to both individuals and agencies. 

• Assists clients and agencies with problem solving to arrive at helpful solutions. Types of calls will include 
basic needs, mental health (possible suicide threats), homelessness and medical requests. 

• Assist/screens clients applying for various programs including Affordable Healthcare, Help Me Grow, Mission 
United, VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance), Medicaid, and Food Stamps. 

• Conducts comprehensive needs and service assessments via telephone, email or Text/Chat 

• Maintains the highest level of confidentiality of client information. 

• Accurately documents client assessments and referrals in program data system. 

• Assists with the data management and quality assurance process of United Way 2-1-1 by: 
o Surveying agencies in the 2-1-1 database at regular intervals, but at least annually. 
o Updating existing agency and program profiles after reported changes have been verified in a timely 

manner upon receipt of submissions.

A portfolio of major gift donors and prospects must be individually maintained.Primary Job Responsibilities &amp; Duties:&nbsp;<ul><li>Implement overall Major Gifts strategy developed by SDMG.</li><li>Identify, engage and re-engage donors, particularly those emerging as the next generation of potential philanthropic leaders.</li><li>Conduct individually tailored, one-on-one cultivation and solicitation meetings and work with appropriate volunteers to strategize and manage their cultivation and solicitation of targeted donors.</li><li>Identify and solicit new major gifts.&nbsp;</li><li>Connect United Way Staff and Board of Directors to new and/or prospective Tocqueville Society members.</li><li>Cultivate, steward and build trusted relationships with a portfolio of major donors and prospective major donors and legacy giving prospects to generate new and increased giving. &nbsp;(Portfolio: 150-200).</li><li>Effectively develop, organize, manage, support and motivate a volunteer team to aid in the identification, cultivation and solicitation of high-capacity donors and prospective donors.</li><li>Partner with Major Gift and Development colleagues, for identification of prospects</li><li>Develop meaningful ways to engage major gift donors and prospects throughout the year including personal visits, executing unique events and volunteer opportunities to connect our members to the work United Way is doing in Broward County.</li><li>Create and implement a stewardship and recognition plan, including thanking donors, events and leadership registry.</li></ul>Other Job Duties:&nbsp;<ul><li>Maintains confidentiality of all materials, and uses judgment and tact in dealing with internal and external inquiries.</li><li>Understand the United Way of Broward concept, mission, purpose, philosophy and background to handle routine calls from public in an effective and diplomatic way.</li><li>Develops and maintains good working relationships with staff, board members, major donors, volunteers, agency representatives, and guests of the SDMG.</li><li>Plans and prioritizes work to meet scheduled deadlines; adjusts personal schedule to assure completion of tasks, assignments, etc.</li><li>Works only under general supervision; uses discretion and judgment in the performance of daily duties.</li><li>Exhibits leadership and initiative in work habits and adhering to UWB policies.</li><li>Performs other duties and assumes other responsibilities as assigned by the SDMG.</li><li>Due to the leadership role United Way is called upon to play in the community, particularly during times of crisis, it is the expectation that all United Way staff will be fully engaged in the organization's crisis plan and response efforts.</li></ul>Education &amp; Physical Demands:&nbsp;The environment is climate controlled (i.e., heated and air-conditioned).&nbsp; Lighting is adequate through overhead lighting as well as windows and blinds.
