Candidate Description 
We are searching for our next Director of Development and Communications to build on the legacy of 
strong corporate partnership while strengthening efforts to attract individual and foundational support. 
This position leads the organization’s fundraising, external communications, and marketing initiatives. 
The preferred candidate is a dynamic individual who will work collaboratively with staff and volunteers 
to diversifying our revenue portfolio. This position will serve as a presence in the community promoting 
our mission and bringing together corporations, individuals, foundations, and government partners to 
support long-term solutions so that families can live to their fullest potential regardless of race, place, 
and ability. 
 
UWSC’s next Director of Development and Communications must be a proven and successful fundraiser 
with the presence and confidence to close five-figure gifts. We are looking for an individual whose 
passion and understanding of our mission will inspire, engage, and educate current and prospective 
donors to make significant and meaningful financial contributions. The ideal candidate will possess a 
strategic mindset and an entrepreneurial spirit. They will work with key staff, board, and volunteer 
partners to create and implement a dynamic resource development model to sustain and grow UWSC’s

The Director of Development and Communications will be willing to learn about, or will have experience 
in, equitable fundraising practices and will be able to create and implement strategies that are grounded

The Director will also develop communications and marketing strategies for the organization to help 
further our mission and vision, including developing strategies around social media, newsletters and 
community outreach. The success of the director will depend in large part on their ability to

Key Responsibilities 
Resource Development (70%) 
 

 • Oversee the design and implementation of resource development strategies, including donor 
outreach and events, corporate giving, grant opportunities and corporate/program sponsorship 
opportunities. 

 • Manage and oversee annual campaign efforts including GiveBig, Year-End, and workplace giving 
campaigns, ensuring timely communication and meeting campaign needs of external partners. 

 • Work with the Director of Finance to develop and monitor revenue streams to better 
understand and communicate cash flow. Additionally, work together to set financial milestones 
that establish achievements for celebration and opportunities for course correction. 

 • Maintain a portfolio of top corporate, foundation, and major donors and prospects; develop and 
implement strategies for engagement in UWSC activities and increased giving. 

 • Provide the Executive Director and UWSC board of directors with regular updates on data 
relevant to tracking fundraising progress and planning. 

 • Steward the UWSC board of directors’ giving to UWSC and support the board’s understanding of 
fundraising efforts. 

 • Represent UWSC in the community on boards, panels and commissions and events that support 
UWSC’s community and fundraising goals. 

 • Stay informed and up to date on community, state and national issues that have a bearing on 
the work of UWSC. 

 • Develop a thorough knowledge of the United Way nationally and build positive relationships 
across the United Way system. 

 • Create and monitor the resource development budget; work with the Executive Director and 
Finance Director in creating the organization’s overall budget by providing accurate information 
and the best forecasts possible. Create accurate projections to report regular progress to the 
leadership team and board of directors. 

 
Marketing and Communications (30%) 


 • Set the overall strategic direction for marketing and communications activities, including 
branding, public relations, crisis communications, advertising, email newsletters, and print and 
electronic materials development. 

 • Oversee the development of a comprehensive, year-round marketing plan that supports the 
engagement strategy. 

 • Ensure that communications are capable of achieving desired response by recipients while 
telling stories that are respectful and empathetic of individuals experiencing hardship. 

 • Drive digital innovation by overseeing and creating content for social media strategies and 
tactics, the UWSC website, annual report, collateral videos, etc. 

 • Identify key target audiences and develop messaging plans to engage each of these audiences to 
reach desired actions. 

 • Oversee and consult on messaging in all written and verbal communications for the 
organization; write and edit content, as needed. 

 • Act as United Way’s media contact. 

 • Represent United Way in the community at public events, and on boards and committees, as 
needed. 
 

Preferred Qualifications 
 

 • 5+ years related experience and progressive leadership with a proven history of high level, high 
return fundraising or business development results based on building strong, lasting 
relationships with donors/customers, or equivalent combination of education and experience. 

 • Experience with securing foundation and/or government grants. 

 • Experience with Little Green Light or other similar CRM programs. 

 • Experience with Adobe products, including InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator, as well as 
experience with online platform Canva. 

 • Experience with Drupal or similar web-based programs a plus. 

 • Knowledge of and experience working in Snohomish County a plus. 

 • History of working effectively with all people across a wide range of economic status, ability, 
race, gender, educational level, or sexual orientation; can speak passionately to the importance

Position Title: United To Solve Homelessness Coordinator 
Reports To: Director of Community Impact

Role: The United To Solve Homelessness Coordinator works directly with the Impact team and the 

Director of Community Impact to coordinate the United To Solve Homelessness project. This 
project will include working with community partners to unite efforts towards implementing 
effective strategies that reduce families experiencing homelessness. The successful candidate is 
one who thrives on serving others, welcomes the opportunity to work with homeless service

Grant Management (10%): This position will be responsible for management of grants and funds that 
support housing and homelessness. The current funding source is the Day 1 Families Fund. Specific duties 
may include, but are not limited to:

 • Maintain an ongoing budget to track funds expended and available. 
 • Complete reporting and other funding requirements. 
 • Research and prepare applications for other funding as prioritized.

Fund Distribution &amp; Management (25%): This position will coordinate a collaborative process to distribute

 • Oversee the fund distribution strategy to promote a collaborative process.

Housing Strategy Support (60%): This position will work collaboratively with City and County officials, 
Continuum of Care Coalition, School District 2, HomeFront, and other community partners to assess 
housing needs, identify promising strategies, and support local efforts specific to housing. Specific duties

 • Engage collaboratively with community partner agencies to identify needs and develop strategies 
and activities to support their housing work. 

 • Develop and implement a strategic plan based on needs, strategies and activities prioritized

for households living below the financial survival threshold or poverty.

The Parent Educator contributes to the achievement of United Way of El Paso County’s (UWEPC) mission, vision, and Education Community Impact goals by addressing a key strategy: family home visitation programs.&nbsp; The Program Manger’s responsibility is to successfully deliver the Parents as Teachers program, an evidence-based early childhood home visitation framework that builds strong communities, thriving families and children who are healthy, safe and ready to learn.

	KEY RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Parents as Teachers (PAT) Parent Educator delivers the essential PAT program functions, to include:
<ul><li>Preparing for and conducting monthly or bi-monthly home visits, including home visits with reoccurring access to vulnerable populations, which will require 27 to 35 visits per month</li>
<li>Partner with families to improve well-being, reflect with families regarding parenting styles, and facilitate discussions and play activities to foster healthy development</li>

POSITION SUMMARY AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 
The Manager, Resource Development will effectively manage a portfolio of campaign accounts for the annual workplace campaign and other resource development activities.
<ul><li>Responsible for year round relationship maintenance, growth, and new relationship development with targeted campaign accounts.&nbsp; May achieve this goal through such activities as meeting with select accounts, attending specific meetings, and providing a variety of print/verbal information regarding United Way activities and its impact on the community.&nbsp;</li>
<li>Identify and build relationships with new prospective donors, including companies capable of running workplace campaigns and/or making corporate gifts, as well as individual donors.</li>
<li>Assist in the qualification and cultivation of major donors capable of giving at a leadership level, helping to increase membership in United Way of Brevard’s giving circles, including the Tocqueville Society ($10,000+ annual giving).</li>
<li>Assist the Director, Resource Development in resolving problems associated with fund raising objectives and monitoring goal progress.</li>
<li>Prepare, analyze, research and review campaign data and reports as required or requested.&nbsp;&nbsp;</li>
<li>Assist employers with the development and implementation of their internal United Way Campaign including but not limited to the facilitation of training for employer contacts, group meetings and agency tours.&nbsp;</li>
<li>Respond to requests for materials and information from employers and perform a variety of clerical duties associated with campaign activities including maintenance of account files.&nbsp;</li>
<li>Participate in pre-campaign recruitment, training and management activities for volunteers and account executives.</li>
<li>Ancillary duties include a variety of responsibilities including collaborating with the Communications Department on the development of campaign materials; assisting in various functions with policy and procedure development; staffing special events as needed; and attending various networking functions to support departmental objectives.</li>

<ul><li>The environment for this position is an open office that is clean and comfortable and includes driving the employee’s own vehicle approximately 40% of the time. Reliable transportation is required.</li>
<li>Evening and weekend work is required.&nbsp;</li>
<li>The position is in a non-confined office-type setting in which the employee is free to move about and may include some minor annoyances such as noise, odors, drafts, etc.</li>
<li>The employee spends time writing, typing, speaking, listening, lifting (up to 50 pounds), carrying, seeing (such as close, color and peripheral vision, depth perception and adjusted focus), sitting, pulling, walking, standing, squatting, kneeling and reaching.</li>
<li>May operate any or all of the following: telephone, cellular telephone, copy, fax machines, calculator, personal computer, related printers and related office equipment.</li>

Education and Experience
<ul><li>Bachelor degree Preferred and two (2) or more years of related experience or the equivalent combination may be acceptable.&nbsp;</li>
<li>Previous fundraising, communications or sales experience required.&nbsp;</li>
<li>Understanding of and some experience with statistical reporting, collection, analysis and reporting.</li>
<li>Ability to extract simple database information and make recommendations based upon statistical analysis.</li>
</ul>Skills/Abilities 
<ul><li>Excellent organization and time management skills and the ability to work with minimal supervision while performing duties.</li>
<li>Proficient skills in personal computer operation, including word-processing, spreadsheet and data management software programs.</li>
<li>Solid oral, written and interpersonal communication skills required.</li>
<li>Strong public speaking skills required.</li>
<li>Current Florida driver’s license and a vehicle with appropriate insurance coverage if required to drive in the course of performing assigned duties and responsibilities.</li>
