Position Summary:
The Vice President, Development helps to develop and implement year-round strategies to maximize growth. The Vice President, Development is responsible for leading, planning, and implementing fundraising activities for the Major Gifts/Individuals Team and implementing strategies of the Second Century Campaign.

Supervisory Responsibilities: The Vice President, Development will oversee the Major Gifts/Individuals Team of approximately 3-6 people.
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the building and management of all donor relationships, including an extensive contributor pipeline. Increase donor recognition and retention
  • Oversee all individual donor fundraising initiatives
  • Manage and personally solicit a group of major gifts donors and coordinate the cultivation of new prospects; develop a strategy around how the organization grows major gifts, including the introduction of planned giving vehicles.
  • Create fundraising strategies to wrap around appropriate events, initiatives, and programmatic work
  • In partnership with the Marketing team, develop strong communications and recognition of donors and prospects to maintain and build the image of United Way of Tarrant County
  • Lead a staff of development professionals to deliver on goals
  • Partner closely with the Programs Team and Marketing Team to link fundraising to impact work, including creating engagement opportunities that engender donor loyalty and additional action
  • Build and motivate an enthusiastic and effective team that works cooperatively and achieves individual goals
  • Provide semi-annual assessments of team members’ performance
  • Leverage United Way of Tarrant County Board Members to increase fundraising results and relationship building
  • Establish annual goals and objectives and be accountable for ensuring that set goals and objectives are met
  • Support executive staff, board members, and other volunteers in all aspects of donor stewardship and solicitation; provide training/coaching as needed
  • Be an exceptional communicator and an articulate, passionate and credible public presence for United Way of Tarrant County and an effective, strong, inspirational and focused leader within the community
  • Develop and maintain long-term relationships with donors and prospects for the purpose of sustaining and increasing giving
  • Engage in development process of research, identification, and prioritization of appropriate new major gift opportunities through individuals in workplace campaigns, United Way of Tarrant County events, third party events, advisory committees, and affinity groups such as Women United
  • Work cross functionally with development team to develop strategies to maximize and deepen relationships with individuals who have the capacity to make a major gift
  • Support the Chief Development Officer with projects and events as requested
  • Represent the organization at events as requested
  • Additional duties as assigned

  • Demonstrated fundraising success in corporate, foundation, workplace, individual and major gifts along with additional sources of revenue generation
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States (No Sponsorship)
  • Must have excellent networking abilities
  • Strong computer skills in MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook)
  • Exceptional written and verbal communications skills
  • Strong organizational and follow-through skills
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills, maturity, good judgment and be capable of communicating with a diverse range of individuals
  • Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors


Experience/Educational Requirements:

  • At least 10 years of experience with nonprofit fund raising or related experience required, with relevant positions increasing in responsibility and scope.
  • A minimum of 3 years of direct supervisory experience preferred.
  • A Bachelor level degree in relevant field or related discipline can be substituted for two years of experience.

Work Environment: The work environment is representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job including traditional office environments. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Although occasional remote work is permitted for this position, the individual must reside primarily in North Texas with the ability to work from the office or other necessary location daily if needed.

Work Hours: Monday-Friday 8-5PM (flexible hours)

  • May require some early mornings, late evenings, or weekends for special events
