POSITION SUMMARY

The Vice President, Community & Collective Impact leads the development, implementation, and oversight of key United Way of the Piedmont (UWP) community impact initiatives. This role involves fostering strategic collaborations, developing and managing budgets, guiding program outcomes, and ensuring the alignment of resources with the organization’s mission and strategic goals. The VP works closely with community stakeholders, local government, funders, and nonprofit partners to advance collective impact in Education, Economic Mobility, and Health. This position is part of the executive leadership team and is responsible for fostering cross-departmental collaboration within the organization.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Community Collaboration

  • Create and manage strategic partnerships that maintain positive, mutually beneficial relationships with nonprofits and community stakeholders.
  • Provide leadership to key initiatives and partnerships such as A Place to Call Home; Behavioral Health Taskforce; Spartanburg Behavioral and Mental Health Collaborative; Disaster Response, Preparedness, and Resiliency Initiatives; Joint Funders Collaborative; Live Healthy Spartanburg Partnership; Movement 2030; Union Uplifted; United for ALICE; and 211.
  • Authentically engage diverse stakeholders in community conversations to guide UWP’s direction, facilitating discussions that build trust and credibility.
  • Influence and inspire individuals and organizations to partner with UWP, aligning initiatives to address community priorities.
  • Demonstrate cultural astuteness and emotional intelligence, resolving conflicts constructively and supporting diversity and inclusiveness in community impact efforts.

Deep Community Expertise

  • Possess thorough knowledge of community data, trends, research, and stakeholders.
  • Lead efforts in data gathering and interpretation to inform strategic decision-making, ensuring community programs are results focused.
  • Oversee the community investment process to support the UWP Community Impact Agenda.
  • Utilize Results Based Accountability (RBA) to measure outcomes, analyze data, and improve program delivery.
  • Share best practices and resources with nonprofit partners to facilitate effective community project implementation.

Product Development and Implementation/Donor Influence

  • Develop investment opportunities that connect donors' philanthropic interests with community strategies and solutions.
  • Structure and manage budgets for new or existing investment products, ensuring effective financial management.
  • Implement and manage projects to meet measurable goals, ensuring continuous improvement and alignment with community outcomes.
  • Collaborate with the Resource Development Team to manage relationships and generate financial, volunteer, and advocacy resources.
  • Use data to craft compelling return-on-investment messages for donors and stakeholders.

Volunteer Engagement and Advocacy

  • Create meaningful volunteer opportunities on board committees, task forces, and councils, clearly defining roles, responsibilities, and expectations.
  • Equip team members, donors, and community stakeholders with the tools and knowledge to advocate for issues affecting Education, Economic Mobility, and Health.
  • Provide strategic direction and leadership to the organization’s advocacy efforts and foster relationships that advance efforts.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Master’s degree preferred, Bachelor’s degree required in social work, nonprofit management, public policy, or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years related experience in program development/management, grants management, strategic planning, research, and outcomes measurement.
  • Minimum 5 years supervisory experience with demonstrated ability to lead a high-performing team.
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a community setting with diverse populations, including community groups, elected and non-elected policy makers, businesspersons, professional staff, and volunteers. 
  • Track record of working in ways that contribute effectively to an organization’s ability to advance its mission, achieve its goals, and achieve shared community goals.
  • Content knowledge and experience in the issue areas of education, economic mobility, and health.
  • Prior United Way network experience and knowledge preferred.
  • Ability to pass a background check and drug screen. 
  • Valid driver’s license and access to transportation throughout the day.
