POSITION SUMMARY

(Eligible for Hybrid/ 3 days in office - Alexandria, VA)

The Vice President, Transformation Realization leads the implementation of change practices to realize the United Way Transformation, a comprehensive global program to ensure that United Way is impactful, relevant, and sustainable in its next century of service. As a senior leader in United Way Worldwide’s Transformation Realization Office, the successful candidate will be a seasoned change-management practitioner who embraces and applies UWW’s change methodology to deliver large-scale transformation. The position is ultimately accountable to the UWW President and CEO, the initiating sponsor of the United Way Transformation. 

The Vice President will apply a broad range of skills to advance successful change in a complex, federated, global nonprofit environment. Combining technical acumen with outstanding management, political savvy, engagement skills, and emotional intelligence, the leader will oversee the execution of multiple interdependent workstreams in a fast-paced and demanding environment. Additionally, the Vice President will build change capability within the United Way network to make it a core competency of the organization.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DELIVERABLES

The Vice President, Transformation Realization will:

  • Lead the global planning, execution, measurement, and risk mitigation for the United Way Transformation
  • Manage a complex, dynamic, integrated change portfolio
  • Oversee successful on-time delivery of transformation commitments, both the installation of change activities and full realization of the transformation’s promise
  • Engage transformation sponsors to align their initiatives with United Way Transformation goals and standards
  • Design and facilitate successful change engagements with a wide array of stakeholders, from senior executives and board members to emerging leaders
  • Design and deliver dynamic large-scale change campaigns, including at major events
  • Build and manage a global change network to deploy the transformation across 34+ countries and within United Way Worldwide
  • Manage the communication and reporting related to the United Way Transformation 
  • Oversee the operations of the Transformation Realization Office
  • Develop and lead the implementation of change-capability building for the United Way network

JOB REQUIREMENTS

The person in this role must:  

  • Demonstrate extensive experience in change management in a complex distributed environment, and provide examples of previous successful strategic transformations within other organizations
  • Embrace and apply the United Way change methodology, incorporating their own change experience while sustaining the integrity of a well-established process
  • Be skilled in managing a large-scale change portfolio, including excellent planning and integration skills, and the ability to manage many moving parts
  • Successfully manage the operations of a change-management team
  • Engage effectively with a wide variety of change sponsors, agents, and stakeholders
  • Be skilled in facilitating successful communication with stakeholders who have diverse viewpoints and cultural influences
  • Through influence, political savvy, and outstanding relationship skills, lead effectively in a federated work environment without corporate controls 
  • Constantly summarize, assess status, and raise performance issues related to reaching the desired realization outcomes
  • Possess strong business acumen and be able to represent the impact and benefits of the program in business terms
  • Balance the needs and priorities of different departments and teams within the organization
  • Skillfully influence department and team leaders without direct authority and within sponsorship mandates, and communicate and execute the integrated transformation plan with department leaders

Minimum requirements include:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in a relevant field preferred
  • Seven to ten years of senior-level change management experience
  • Five years of people management and expert-level experience in a similar role
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills
  • Strong people skills
  • Ability to lead projects in a fast-paced environment

SALARY STATEMENT

The salary range for this position is $180,000 - $200,000 per year. Proffered salaries are determined by several factors including applicant’s knowledge, ­­­skills, experience, position, equity, and market.
