POSITION SUMMARY: (Hybrid, 3 days in office - Alexandria, VA)

United Way Worldwide seeks an energetic self-starter to serve as Vice President, Government Partnerships. This role will be responsible for managing United Way’s role as a subrecipient in the Environmental Protection Agency’s Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund (GGRF). The successful candidate will lead United Way Worldwide’s scope of work, as the central point of contact for the GGRF work, including coordination with the EPA and the Power Forward Communities coalition, of which United Way Worldwide is a member. 

The Vice President is a critical lead of United Way Worldwide’s GGRF project, including recommending strategy, coordinating timelines and communications, and representing all stakeholders including the United Way network, the Board of Trustees, and other partners. The Vice President will elevate issues, conflicts, and risks with the appropriate parties and work to resolve them. This role will require prior relevant experience managing government awards and projects related to environmental and energy issues, with a focus on outreach to disadvantaged communities. 

The Vice President will report to the SVP of Government Partnerships and will work collaboratively with other members of the United Way Worldwide Team, as well as outside policy experts. 

Please note that this position is subject to government funding availability.  Although our awards have been announced, it is important to acknowledge that funding allocations and external factors beyond our control may impact this position.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL DUTIES OF POSITION:

An individual must be able to perform each essential duty listed below at a satisfactory level:

  • Serve as the primary liaison to the government agency (EPA) and coalition partners
  • Manage a large government contract, including staffing, strategy, budget and reporting
  • Understand concepts of environmental and energy programs, conduct research and analyze policy and legislation in this area
  • Manage a project, including creating a charter and project plan, and following a timeline
  • Manage multiple project deliverables with a high level of collaboration with team members
  • Develop and implement program strategies
  • Coordinate with leadership and outside experts to review and establish systems and resources needed to ensure program effectiveness and minimize risk
  • Create presentations and other communications for internal and external audiences 
  • Attend sessions with outside groups, policymakers and partners to understand the landscape and report back to colleagues 
  • Identify resource needs, including consultants or other experts to support the work 
  • Oversee staff, contractors, vendors and consultants supporting a wide range of activities for this work
  • Create toolkits for the United Way Network in these program areas
  • Develop, track, and manage project or program budgets
  • Set, measure, and refine impact measures for projects and programs
  • Other duties as assigned 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Minimum requirements include:

  • Bachelor’s degree, Masters preferred
  • Minimum eight years of advanced-level experience in a similar role
  • Experience in community engagement, mobilization and/or movement-building. 
  • Experience leading programs that build public awareness. 
  • Advanced knowledge, skills and abilities in Environment, Energy, Disaster Response and/or Housing. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment, build relationships, and work collaboratively
  • Excellent project management
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite 
  • Familiarity with the United Way network and federal policy landscape is strongly preferred

SALARY STATEMENT:

The budgeted lifespan salary range for this position is currently $160,000 to $200,0000 per year. Salaries are determined by several factors including applicant’s knowledge, ­­­skills, experience, position, equity, and market.
