The Vice President of Engagement informs and advances United Way’s major gift and planned giving programs. The position is responsible for cultivating and stewarding high net worth donors and prospects. The position is responsible for supporting the SVP and CEO in their fundraising efforts.

General Responsibilities: 

  • Manage a portfolio of donors, meeting with them regularly and working with them to build an understanding of their philanthropic interests and how United Way can deepen our relationship with them. 
  • Identify and engage new donors who have the capacity to make a major gift including identifying current donors with major gift potential.
  • Ensure all current donors, lapsed donors and prospects are solicited appropriately and accurately. 
  • Represent United Way’s de Tocqueville Society at all United Way events (some nights and weekends). 
  • Using research and trends, help set fundraising goals in partnership with senior leaders. Provide regular reports to senior management. 
  • Provide leadership and direction to department staff and collaborate with other departments and organizational leaders. 
  • Work with senior leaders in the preparation of the Philanthropy department budget including monitoring and maintaining  controls on budget needs.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree required 
  • Minimum 5-7 years of experience in a major gift role with a proven track record of securing new and larger gifts preferably non-profit experience.
  • Experience working with high-net-worth donors.
  • Knowledge of planned giving programs/vehicles and of tax smart giving tools.
  • Team oriented with a commitment to fostering strong, productive, working relationships with all staff, volunteers, and the overall community
  • Has the ability to work in non-regular office hours and weekends as needed. 
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks on behalf of the department.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 
  • Experience with donor databases
