Summary:

The Vice-President of Community Impact serves as change agent, connector, and convener to identify community needs, develop funding priorities, and lead strategies to achieve United Way Fox Cities (UWFC) community impact goals though investments, UWFC programs and initiatives, strategic collaboration and community partnership utilizing United Way Worldwide and collective impact frameworks to identify and address communities’ most significant challenges. The Vice-President of Community Impact advances equitable and sustainable strategies that address gaps and disparities while amplifying community assets and capacity to ensure every person has access to resources needed to thrive. The Vice-President of Community Impact demonstrates outcomes and supports core team activities such as evaluation, advocacy, community and donor engagement, and relationship-building with community partners. This position is a member of UWFC senior leadership team reporting to the President/CEO with dotted-line reporting to Chief Operating Officer.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Community Impact

  • Serve in a highly visible role in the community including active outreach and convening multi-sector stakeholders to advance UWFC impact priorities.
  • Lead UWFC process to assess capacity, set priorities, and implement investment strategies to address community-identified priority issues.
  • Establish measurable impact strategies that reflect community needs and drive equitable outcomes.
  • Lead efficient grantmaking and investment processes to insure equitable, effective distribution of funds including development and management of investment budget.
  • Utilize community and corporate volunteers to enhance and expand the scope of impact work. 
  • Develop outcome metrics to demonstrate effective utilization of community resources; track performance and evaluate progress toward goals.
  • Ensure representation in all work related to inclusion, diversity, equity, and access.
  • Supervise UWFC external grant management processes aligned with revenue diversification and impact strategies to support community needs.

Community Outreach & Collaboration

  • Listen to and engage with community stakeholders to assess needs and create solutions and shared ownership.
  • Drive and participate in multi-sector community collaboration to solve local problems including regional needs assessment coalition, funders, and other community collaborations.
  • Build local reputation through partnerships that leverage United Way expertise.
  • Cultivate community support for United Way programs and initiatives through partnership development with businesses, government, nonprofit organizations, civic groups, and individual donors.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with external partners.
  • Coordinate the development, refinement, and use of needs assessment and priority-setting information in the development of UWFC initiatives including funding of programs, services, and creation of initiatives.
  • Identify areas of potential conflicts and opportunities for improving quality of life as they emerge.
  • Identify appropriate leadership roles for United Way in community-building, convening, and connecting to address community needs.
  • Assure external relationships/actions are consistent with the vision and mission of UWFC.
  • Regularly represent UWFC at community meetings, agency events, statewide and local coalitions/task forces, donor meetings, and other opportunities.
  • Participate in outreach, engagement, and advocacy activities to represent UWFC in critical health and human service issues in our community.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with other funding sources to cooperatively, and at times collaboratively, address problems and to meet changing needs in the Fox Cities area.
  • As requested by the CEO/President attend, and serve on local, regional, or national committees/task forces regarding planning and community building.
  • Strive to partner and collaborate with other United Ways across the network.
  • Actively contribute to United Way network, local/regional collaborations, and offerings.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Supervise Grants and Data Manager including data, reporting and key performance metrics processes
  • Supervise Be Well Fox Valley Associate Director and Coordinator, and AmeriCorps Program Director
  • Provide support and development to this team in annual and day-to-day matters 
  • Set and support the achievement of performance goals.
  • Monitor and appraise ongoing performance
  • Support training, cross-training, and assignment of work.
  • Ensure appropriate allocation of workload among staff to maintain internal controls and manage workload.
  • Address performance management issues within the team, with the support of the CEO and the HR Committee.
  • Maintain standard work and policy and procedures to insure continuous process improvement and cross-training.
  • Serve as an active member of the Senior Leadership team contributing to the strategy development across the enterprise.
  • Support Board of Directors and Committees and communicate Community Impact and Investment strategies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 Education and Experience:

  • Master’s degree in social welfare, public policy, public administration, health care, or related field preferred.
  • Three to five years' experience in progressive, human service planning; administrative and supervisory experience of professional staff; previous working relationship with volunteers.
  • At least three years of experience in program management or grants management.
  • Intercultural competence and demonstrated commitment to advancing racial, economic, and gender equity within organizations or communities.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and success with strategic planning, system thinking, and outcome-based methodology. 
  • Knowledge of local non-profit and health and human service sector. 
  • Specific knowledge and demonstrated results in collective impact, fund distribution, strategic and community planning, finance, and evaluation. 
  • Specific knowledge of strategies to achieve community goals within United Way Impact Areas of Healthy Community, Youth Opportunity, Financial Security, and Community Resiliency.

Work Environment:

Work is primarily performed in an office environment. This position requires regular movement inside the office to access filing cabinets, office machinery, etc. Attendance at meetings outside of the office is occasionally necessary. The position also includes remaining in a stationary position a portion of the time, either standing or sitting, and occasional lifting of up to 20 pounds. There may be exposure to repetitive work on the computer. Evening and weekend hours may be required.
