JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Senior Development Officer is responsible for the management and oversight of workplace and corporate development and philanthropy at United Way. This includes new corporate proposals, grants management, and Workplace Campaign fundraising efforts; cultivation of new prospects; and increasing the current funding base through workplace and corporate giving opportunities. This position promotes and represents the work and mission of United Way.

This is a full time, exempt position, reporting to and working directly with the Associate Vice President of Annual Campaign.  A high degree of self-direction and initiative is required to be successful in this role.  All United Way of Tucson and Southern Arizona programs and strategies work toward eliminating racial, ethnic, and socio-economic disparities for an educated, thriving, and equitable community.

Salary Range: $65,000 - $75,000

Responsibilities:

Workplace and Corporate Development

  • Directly manage a robust portfolio of corporate accounts.
  • Become an expert in United Way’s programs and initiatives to create new business opportunities to grow the workplace and corporate side of our business.
  • Manages workplace and corporate development pipeline and facilitates internal connections to follow up on leads.
  • Facilitate peer-to-peer CEO relationships in largest workplaces.
  • Identifies and proposes resources relevant to workplace and Corporate development goals.
  • Work with Associate Vice President, Annual Campaign to prospect, cultivate, solicit and grow Tocqueville Society members in assigned industries and accounts.
  • Attract, as well as retain donors by developing highly creative outreach strategies in alignment with organizational mission and values.
  • Develops cross-functional partnerships with leadership to ensure alignment on the overall Workplace and Corporate development process and priorities.
  • Works closely with other groups in the organization needed to successfully deliver development proposals in a timely manner.
  • Conducts research on areas to grow, new strategies, new markets, and presents them to executive leadership for review.
  • Works with the communications and engagement team to assemble and refine marketing materials for specific campaigns.
  • Maintains appropriate records of contacts and efforts to build relationships and leverage those relationships to identify new workplace opportunities.
  • Builds powerful partnerships externally and internally.

Fundraising/Philanthropy

  • Supports the AVP of Annual Campaign to implement and monitor the annual development plan and budget.
  • Trains news employees in the workplace-based software.
  • Supports the AVP of Annual Campaign in overseeing the workplace campaign and recognition programs.
  • Solicits corporate sponsorships for agency events.
  • Develops workplace campaign identification, cultivation, invitation, and stewardship strategies that result in increased donations.
  • Oversees tracking of workplace histories; conducts donor research; ensures appropriate outreach is designed and implemented; oversees follow-up with Employee Campaign Leaders (personal visits, phone calls, letters) who have made or expressed interest in conducting a workplace campaign.
  • Organizes local workplace cultivation events and prospects high-impact donors.
  • Other duties as assigned.
     

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Bachelor's degree with four years of professional level experience in development/fundraising or related field required.
  • Demonstrated success in fundraising campaigns, sales and/or project management.  Strong relationship-building skills.
  • Excellent verbal/written communication and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated skills using Windows-based software, including Internet browsers, e-mail, word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software.
  • Demonstrated ability to tactfully handle stressful situations, negotiate and resolve conflicts, maintain confidentiality and to respect and observe organizational protocol.
  • Ability to perform job with integrity, mission, vision, and values consistent with United Way  and hold self and other team members accountable for achieving results.
  • Physical requirements include the ability to occasionally lift 30 pounds, standing for extended periods, and the ability to walk moderate distances indoors /outside in connection with attending various events. 
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license, current auto insurance, daily access to reliable vehicle.
