JOB TITLE: SPECIALIST, EVENTS REPORTING TO: DIRECTOR, SPECIAL EVENTS AND ANNUAL GIVING DEPARTMENT: DEVELOPMENT POSITION: FULL-TIME / NON-EXEMPT

Purpose of Position

The Specialist, Events is a dynamic and detail-oriented fundraising professional responsible for the coordination, planning, and execution of Orange County United Way’s signature fundraising. This role is critical to advancing the organization’s mission by delivering high-impact experiences that maximize revenue, deepen donor engagement, and strengthen community partnerships. The Specialist, Events will lead strategies to drive event-based fundraising—including sponsorships, auctions, raffles, wine pulls, and other revenue-generating activities—while ensuring every sponsor receives the full suite of promised benefits. This position also manages all event logistics to create seamless, impactful experiences for donors and partners.

  • Women’s Philanthropy Fund Breakfast
  • Rally for Change Corporate Recognition Event
  • Gala/Fall Fundraiser

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Solicit and secure event sponsorships, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and revenue targets.
  • Steward corporate sponsors, ensuring fulfillment of all promised benefits and exceptional donor experience.
  • Develop and implement strategies for event-day fundraising activities, including auctions, raffles, wine pulls, and other revenue streams, with attention to pricing, packaging, and donor appeal.
  • Lead end-to-end logistics for signature events, vendor coordination, production schedules, staffing, and post-event analysis.
  • Provide daily operational and planning support to the Director, Special Events and Annual Giving, ensuring timelines and deliverables are met.
  • Assist in all aspects of event planning and execution, including budgeting, communications, and creative development.
  • Participate in early morning, evening, and occasional weekend events and meetings, as required.
  • Contribute creative ideas and innovative solutions to elevate event experiences and maximize fundraising outcomes.
  • Work in lockstep with Event Coordinator for each signature event to ensure finances are accurate and logistics are all covered.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

Job Requirements /Technical Knowledge

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in event planning, nonprofit development, or related fields.
  • Proven track record in managing event logistics and providing high-level administrative support.
  • Experience working directly with donors, sponsors, and volunteer leaders.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint); advanced Excel skills preferred.
  • Familiarity with CRM systems; experience with Andar is a plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Reliable transportation and a clean driving record required for travel throughout Orange County.

Compensation

  • Commensurate with experience, education, and market, $30-$36 per hour. Competitive benefits.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is frequently required to be able to remain in a stationary position 75% of the time. The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, records, and office machinery. Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine and computer printer. Occasionally ascends/descends stairs, and constantly positions self to maintain computers in the office, including under the desks. The person in this position frequently communicates with coworkers and customers who have inquiries about our business operations and the community we service; therefore, the person must be able to exchange accurate information. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
