Position Summary

The Senior Vice President of Impact provides visionary leadership to advance the United Way of Palm Beach County’s mission of improving youth opportunities, financial security, community health, and community resiliency for all. This role energizes and inspires the Impact team, guiding strategic investments, community collaborations, and program initiatives that create measurable, lasting change. The SVP of Impact serves as a key ambassador to donors, partners, and stakeholders, demonstrating the impact of our work and positioning United Way as the premier way to get involved in building a stronger community.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following:

Strategic Leadership and Program Oversight

  • Provide leadership to the Community Impact Council, supervising directors and staff across key initiatives (e.g., Hunger Relief, Special Needs, VITA, Mentoring).
  • Provide strategic direction for all phases of United Way’s grantmaking—planning, research, application design, compliance, monitoring, and evaluation.
  • Oversee organizational impact measurement, ensuring consistent data collection, analysis, and reporting across programs.
  • Oversee the grants management system.
  • Engage stakeholders in Countywide Community Needs Assessments.
  • Manage the department budget and align resources to organizational priorities.

Community Engagement and Volunteer Leadership

  • Manage the Community Impact Council and Agency Executive Directors’ Council—setting agendas, preparing materials, and facilitating productive dialogue.
  • Recruit, train, and engage diverse volunteer leaders to strengthen United Way’s investment and impact strategies.
  • Represent United Way in community forums, task forces, and strategic collaboratives to drive systems-level change.

Initiatives and Special Programs

  • Oversee the ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) initiative and the EFSP (Emergency Food and Shelter Program).
  • Assist with the organization’s disaster response efforts (e.g., hurricanes, pandemic, mass casualty), including fundraising and managing distribution of funding.
  • Develop and implement strategies for new initiatives and special projects in alignment with community needs and organizational priorities.
  • Coordinate cross-functionally with the Fundraising Team, Volunteer Services, Marketing/Communications, Finance, and IT to maximize impact and visibility.
  • Coordinate Public Policy and Advocacy efforts.

Fund Development and Storytelling

  • Partner with the Fundraising Team to cultivate corporate, foundation, and government support for programs and initiatives.
  • Collaborate with Marketing/Communications to translate data and results into compelling stories for donors, stakeholders, and the public.
  • Present outcomes and impact to the Board of Directors, funders, and community partners to strengthen trust and investment.

Assist, as assigned by management, with the organization’s disaster response efforts.

Perform other duties as opportunities are presented and/or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

  • Master’s degree preferred; bachelor’s degree with equivalent leadership experience considered.
  • Minimum of 10 years progressive leadership in human services, philanthropy, or community impact (including staff supervision, program management, and strategic planning).
  • Demonstrated success in grantmaking, resource development, and outcome measurement.
  • Proven ability to build consensus, lead collaborative initiatives, and inspire diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; able to design innovative strategies informed by data.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills, with the ability to engage boards, donors, and community leaders.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with grants management systems and impact measurement tools preferred.
