Senior Director, Learning & Leadership Development
POSITION SUMMARY
(Eligible for Hybrid/ 3 days in office - Alexandria, VA)
In coordination with the VP, Learning & Leadership Development, the Senior Director, Learning & Leadership Development, is responsible for leading implementation of operational plans and day-to-day efforts of the Learning & Leadership Development (L&D) Team which includes developing learning strategies and products to close key competency gaps, accelerate performance, support large scale change efforts, and provide leadership expertise. This role leverages instructional design methodologies to design and deliver L&D curricula including blended, virtual and instructor led, that help global United Way global staff learn and grow their skills to successfully partner with communities and address their most pressing challenges. The Senior Director, Learning & Leadership Development will:
- Provide team-based project management, ongoing project oversight, staff coordination, and management of workflows.
- Lead and contribute to the building and bolstering of learning infrastructure (LMS, Communities of Practice, etc.), the innovation of new approaches to staff development, and the design and development of learning products and services.
- Serve as Lead Facilitator of ongoing United Way Worldwide Learning Programs such as Welcome to United Way Global Onboarding, New Executive Leader Onboarding, Finance Fundamentals, Fundraising Fundamentals, and Equitable Community Impact Fundamentals.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL DUTIES OF POSITION
An individual must be able to perform each essential duty listed below at a satisfactory level:
- Lead development and implementation of formal learning programs (such as New Executive Leader Onboarding) to address learner needs including blended learning, coaching, instructor led courses, distance learning and online learning, peer-learning processes, and conference content.
- Direct the staff and provide robust project management discipline to the workflows and projects associated with the design, development, and delivery of L&D products and services.
- Conduct needs analyses and identify outcomes to ensure impact of learning solutions (ROI), evaluating success of learning solutions using Kirkpatrick’s level 1-4 metrics.
- Engage with United Way Worldwide and local United Way colleagues to build relationships, develop a robust understanding of customer needs and develop approaches to close prioritized needs. This will include development of a field faculty program.
- Continually evaluate processes, programs and learning methodologies for opportunities to increase effectiveness and efficiency of development and delivery to improve learning outcomes.
- Determine changes and enhancements to current curriculum; incorporating build or buy options.
- Establish and maintain strategic relationships with partners in the development and delivery of learning
- Other duties as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Minimum requirements include:
- Bachelor’s degree or commensurate experience.
- Eight years of progressive experience in a similar role.
- Outstanding facilitation skills, in-person and virtual.
- Strong project management skills for team-based projects.
- Proven experience planning and leveraging current and emerging technologies for learning, including Learning Management Systems.
- Strong background in adult learning, organization development, and/or knowledge management.
- Experience working with global stakeholder groups preferred.
- Ability to interact with all levels of staff. Attention to detail and excellent organization skills.
- Excellent written and verbal English communication required; multiple language proficiency preferred.
- International certified coach expertise preferred.
- Project management experience preferred.

SALARY STATEMENT
The budgeted lifespan salary range for this position is currently $150,000 to $175,000 per year. Salary is determined by several factors including applicant’s knowledge, skills, experience, position, equity, and market.
