Senior Director, Development Communications
POSITION SUMMARY
(Eligible for hybrid/3 days in office - Alexandria, VA)

This role, reporting to the Senior Vice President of Global Communications, will develop and execute the communications strategy to support United Way Worldwide’s (UWW) fundraising to drive engagement and support for the global United Way Network. In alignment with organizational positioning, this person will work in partnership with UWW Development colleagues in the creation and execution of an annual plan, message strategy, assets, and activations to support fundraising efforts including workplace campaigns, year-round and short-term giving initiatives, corporate funders, direct response and donor stewardship.
- In partnership with internal stakeholders, develop the comprehensive communications strategy to support organizational fundraising goals
- Develop the compelling message framework to elevate the organizational value proposition in support of fundraising efforts and ensure integration across all communications touchpoints including social media, print and digital
- Drive strategy, cadence, and content development for all email communications to UWW donors and analyze results to optimize approach and messaging
- Provide data, stories, messaging, and more to support Development presentations and reports
- Lead efforts to create fundraising messaging and tools for local United Ways
- Provide compelling written materials for offline and online channels, in partnership with the Development and Marketing teams
- Collaborate with digital marketing team to drive and nurture individual donor relationships including support for email marketing strategy
- Support corporate cause marketing campaigns as needed
- Support communications for donor cultivation events
- May be responsible for supervising and developing direct reports
- Establish, measure and report on performance metrics
- Manages assigned agency and vendor relationships
- Periodic travel may be required
- Other duties as assigned
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum 12 years of experience in development communications, marketing, fundraising, or a related field
- More than five years of experience overseeing fundraising communications for a national or global charitable organization
- Proven experience in developing and executing a donor communications strategy is required
- Experience in digital fundraising and creating donor user journeys is required
- Expertise in aligning communications to drive strategic goals in support of organizational priorities is required
- Must be a strong writer/editor, and an effective communications consultant
- Experience with developing and implementing marketing and communications efforts for a decentralized global organization is preferred
- Strong cultural competencies and ability to effectively communicate to a diverse, global audience
- Experience utilizing project management software is preferred
- Experience using email marketing and CRM platforms is required
- Proven ability to establish and evaluate performance metrics
- Excellent strategic and conceptual thinking, and decision-making skills are required
- Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, journalism, public relations or related field is required

SALARY STATEMENT
The budgeted lifespan salary range for this position is currently $135,000 to $150,000 per year. Salary is determined by several factors including applicant’s knowledge, skills, experience, position, equity, and market.
