Senior Director of Collective Impact
Title: Senior Director of Collective Impact
Reports to: President and CEO
Supervises: Director of Education Initiatives, Welcome Baby Program Director, Student Success Program Director
United Way of Northern Utah Mission: Uniting people and organizations to build a healthy, and well-educated community where individuals, families, and neighborhoods thrive.
Summary of Work: United Way of Northern Utah leads collaborative initiatives that unite community stakeholders—nonprofits, businesses, government agencies, and residents—to address complex social issues. By fostering cross-sector partnerships, aligning resources, and driving data-informed decision-making, we work to achieve systemic change and measurable outcomes that improve lives across our region. Our collective impact approach emphasizes shared vision, continuous communication, and coordinated action to create sustainable, community-wide solutions. Core work includes overseeing three major teams that work together to address critical needs in our community with a cradle-to-career approach. Central to this is the United Partnership Council, a collective impact partnership focused on building a seamless cradle-to-career continuum for Ogden students and surrounding areas, as well as strengthening the health and economic stability of the community as a whole. Thus, a primary function of the Senior Director of Collective Impact is to build a backbone team with the competencies and capacity to improve outcomes in education, economic stability, and health, and support respective internal UWNU programs that provide services within these areas.
Our Collective Impact effort is organized into two different types of work. First, we convene partners who are focused on distinct, measurable indicators such as kindergarten readiness, third and eighth-grade reading and math, and college and career readiness. Second, we work with school districts and institutions of higher education to provide students and families with a robust community school initiative approach that provides extended learning opportunities, wrap-around services to meet basic needs, including housing stability, and high-quality school and family engagement. Growing the community school infrastructure to reach more schools and engage more community partners will be an important component of this role.
Key Responsibilities
- Set a vision and provide supportive, accountable leadership to the Collective Impact team.
- Work with departments to develop strong logic models and action plans which address root causes of social issues and produce measurable outcomes.
- Work with Directors to establish development opportunities that support growth of team members and synergies across teams.
- Ensure strong adherence to the use of data including tracking population and program level results, equipping UWNU and partner agencies with excellent data visualization, and a strong, disciplined approach to program evaluation.
- Providing fiscal oversight of division budget and grant management; including writing, oversight of implementation, and reporting on all grants supporting the Collective Impact team
- Cultivate and maintain positive working relationships with key stakeholders/institutions in the Ogden community, such as the school district, Weber State University, OgdenCAN, the health department, and others.
- Further develop the Community School infrastructure; which includes but is not limited to, seeking funding sources; and as funding allows - hiring full-time staff, and improving the number, nature, and quality of wrap-around services and family engagement activities throughout the district.
- Participate and coordinate with the Promise Partnership, backboned by United Way of Salt Lake to build cohesive statewide efforts and support.
- Maintain a particular focus on collaboration with Weber State University (WSU), Ogden Civic Action Network (OgdenCAN), and WSU Community Research Extension (CRE).
- Recognize that this role, by definition, is focused on building solutions where known solutions do not exist (creating whole community solutions in education, economic stability, and health), which takes a toll on both the supervisor and the supervisees. This dynamic makes staff supervision challenging and requires adaptability, thick skin and compassion.
