President and Chief Executive Officer

United Way of the Virginia Peninsula invites nominations and applications for the position of President and Chief Executive Officer (President/CEO).  The mission of United Way of the Virginia Peninsula (United Way) is to improve the quality of life for people in our community by helping them live their best possible lives. United Way fights for the health, education, and financial stability of every person in our community and brings our community together to create Pathways out of Poverty. We believe that we can achieve more together than any of us could on our own. By fostering community partnerships, we can champion shared goals and align resources to deliver innovative, holistic solutions to our community's most pressing issues, with a focus on coming together to break the cycles of poverty.

Mobilizing approximately six million dollars in financial and volunteer resources, United Way facilitates collaborative and innovative partnerships. These partnerships lift the experiences of those who are working and still struggling to make ends meet, all to achieve better health, education, and financial stability for everyone on the Virginia Peninsula. Serving a population of over 600,000 in Gloucester, Hampton, James City County, Mathews, New Kent, Newport News, Poquoson, Williamsburg, and York County, United Way connects business, government and not for profit agencies to address our community's most pressing needs through collective impact.

Based in Yorktown, VA, the President/CEO will provide leadership and overall management in carrying out the purpose and policies of the organization as established by the Board of Directors. Effective service to the community is measured by the development of strong relationships and engagement with volunteers, strong resource development, community impact strategies management, and sound operations. The President/CEO adheres to the utmost level of ethical standards of the United Way of the Virginia Peninsula and does everything to build the reputation of the brand. This effective and transparent communicator will clearly articulate a vision, goals, and accomplishments to multiple constituencies.

The successful candidate will have served in leadership roles, specifically in marketing or a President/CEO/COO, Executive Director environment for a minimum of three to five years.  This effective leader will have experience managing staff and volunteers, nonprofit budgets, fundraising along with establishing relationships with prospective donors.  A bachelor’s degree is required or equivalent experiences in a related field will be considered.
