Title: Nonprofit Connection (NPC) Director
Reports to: Director of Community Resources

Summary: United Way of Northern Utah (UWNU) seeks a knowledgeable, energetic, and dynamic leader who will guide United Way’s Nonprofit Connection program and oversee our brand-new Behnken Nonprofit Learning Campus. Formed in early 2021, the Nonprofit Connection program seeks to generate increasingly meaningful growth and results for nonprofit organizations in Northern Utah, helping them build their organizational capability and capacity through various efforts. Efforts will be focused in Weber, Morgan, Box Elder, Cache, and Rich counties. In this role, you will direct and oversee the day-to-day operations of the Nonprofit Connection program and serve as a critical thought partner in developing new initiatives, professional development offerings, and organizational support services. We are searching for a candidate who demonstrates the ability to lead initiatives and work independently as needed. The director will be a part of a team and will have strong support from senior management, who is vested in the success of this work.
This position is designed to support people and systems that foster high-performing nonprofit organizations allowing their focus to be on what matters most - their mission. We do NOT expect you to have expertise across the key function areas, rather, we are looking for someone who knows how to bring the right people and resources together and effectively manage them. We have identified 11 Key Domains of an effective nonprofit in which we strive to provide educational opportunities which include: (1) Fundraising, (2) Human Resources, (3) Information Technology, (4) Marketing and Communications, (5) Finance and Accounting, (6) Volunteer Management, (7) Leadership and Organizational Culture, (8) Outcomes and Evaluation, (9) Board Governance, (10) Legal, and (11) Diversity.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversees the delivery of capacity-building services tailored to the needs of nonprofit organizations, including professional and leadership development and training, board development (Project Blueprint), round table discussions, and pro bono consulting.
- Sets annual calendar of provided services, facilitates and coordinates client coaching and mentoring with consultants.
- Establishes and maintains a close working relationship with community nonprofit leadership (board and staff), volunteer consultants, contractors and trainers, and key local government contacts. Maintains ongoing communication with external partners. Attends various community events, fundraisers, galas, etc. to maintain community presence and support partners.
- Facilitates and/or coordinates an array of internal and external group interactions.
- Collaborates and supports UWNU’s Marketing and Resource Development (RD) departments by helping with grant and funding proposals and reporting and creating marketing materials for the NPC program and Behnken Nonprofit Learning Campus.
- Develops and monitors program budget. Seeks additional funding opportunities and works with RD in writing and submitting grant proposals.
- Builds awareness of Nonprofit Connection services externally to public, private, nonprofit, government, and corporate sectors. Maintains a strong network of relationships with community leaders to facilitate collaboration.
- Coordinates and attends monthly nonprofit tours with the Director of Community Resources.
- Oversees UWNU’s Zada Haws Community Grant Center and maintains Foundation Directory Online accreditation. Creates community awareness about the value of the Zada Haws Community Grant Center, trains users, and develops grant training opportunities for community partners.
- Support the Bear River Community Engagement Director in providing Nonprofit Connection offerings virtually and in-person in Box Elder, Cache, and Rich Counties.
- Create and send the monthly Nonprofit Connection Newsletter with relevant content and keep the contact list up-to-date.

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (examples include public administration, business administration, communication, human services) OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
- At least 2 years of experience in Project Management
- Strong skills in Microsoft Office/Google Suite productivity tools
- Proven ability to oversee grant-funded projects and manage budgets.
- High standards of professional ethics and conduct.
- Able to regularly travel throughout Northern Utah and occasionally work evenings/Saturdays.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Social Work, Public Administration, etc.). and/or 6+ years of work experience in the nonprofit sector or other related field. Priority is given to those with experience as a Director or Department Head at a nonprofit or public organization.
- Familiarity and history of service within the landscape of education, community development, and social services networks in Northern Utah.
Compensation
Wage: $53,000 - $63,000
Benefits:A comprehensive benefits plan includes vacation, sick, holidays, health, dental, vision, and life and an organization-matched 403(b) plan of up to 10% after one year.
Location: Ogden, UT (with occasional work throughout the UWNU service area)
Hours: Full-time, exempt. UWNU's hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. United Way strives for employees to have a great work-life balance and allows for occasional remote work, assuming it does not interfere with productivity, results, and/or quality of relationships with partners and is pre-approved by the direct supervisor. Work hours are subject to change based on United Way events and activities happening in the community.
