
Manager of Annual Giving & Development Operations
Summary
Berkshire United Way is seeking a Manager of Annual Giving & Development Operations to expand annual giving revenue, coordinate meaningful special events, and oversee the systems and operations that support effective, data-driven fundraising. This role is pivotal in growing BUW’s revenue growth by bringing innovative strategies to its annual giving program, engaging donors in recognition and stewardship opportunities that deepen their relationships with BUW, identifying highly engaged and high net worth donors, and strengthening the integrity of donor data and reporting.
The Manager will oversee core systems and processes - including database management, gift accounting, and donor acknowledgment - while also leading multi-channel annual appeals and creating key events that bring our community together.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Key Responsibilities
Annual Giving
- Plan, implement, and evaluate spring and fall annual appeals using multiple channels (direct mail, email, digital, and social media)
- Develop audience segmentation and messaging that reflects Berkshire United Way’s mission and community-centered approach
- Track and analyze campaign performance; share insights to strengthen future efforts
Database Management
- Manage and maintain a donor database of approximately 11,000 records, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and confidentiality
- Oversee gift processing, including data entry and gift acknowledgement
- Generate reports to support fundraising strategy, leadership, and board reporting
- Prepares annual completion of Database II reporting to United Way Worldwide, including coordinating staff report outs across all departments.
Gift Accounting & Financial Coordination
- Ensure best practice, accuracy, and compliance with donation receipting and accounting.
- In partnership with finance staff, reconcile gift accounting between the donor database and BUW’s general ledger
- Prepare and manage bank deposits related to fundraising activities
- Maintains deposit control log
- Assists with revenue forecasting, projections, and planning
Prospect Management
- Performs research for individual and foundation donor prospecting and relationship management, including updating and maintenance of donor information in database.
Donor Stewardship & Recognition
- Ensure timely, accurate, and meaningful donor acknowledgements
Support donor stewardship efforts that reflect appreciation, transparency, and impact - Support corporate gift recognition as outlined in CG opportunities
- In partnership with Marketing, coordinate content for annual Impact Report
Event Planning & Coordination
- Plan and coordinate an annual donor appreciation event that celebrates community impact
- Plan and coordinate for an annual workplace campaign kickoff event
- Provide light coordination support for an annual golf tournament organized by an external partner
Qualifications
- 3-5 years of experience in fundraising, nonprofit operations, or a related field
- Strong writing and storytelling skills and experience with multi-channel communications
- Creative content development for digital communications to promote/inspire/motivate giving
- Event creation and management, from small group gatherings to broader audience events
- Experience managing donor databases/CRMs
- Adept at donor segmentation and identifying prospective donors that have high interest in the organization, high inclination to increase giving, and high net worth
- Deep appreciation for data integrity and ethical standards of managing confidential information
- Skilled at creating and implementing processes and operations that are efficient, effective, and support the growth of a strong fundraising program
- Strong skills in fundraising operations: gift entry, accounting, and acknowledgements
- Passion for and appreciation for data to drive strategy
- Deep understanding of fundraising reporting
- Financial acumen and comfort with general accounting and reconciliation
- Intrinsic values towards community support, collective impact, and collaboration
- Creative problem solver that leans into innovation and entrepreneurship to improve operations and outcomes
- College degree or equivalent experience
- Occasionally requires work commitments that may occur in the early morning, evening, and weekends.
Compensation
Salary Range: $60,000 – $66,000
Commensurate with relevant experience and in proportion with BUW's operating budget.
