Major Gifts Officer, Associate Director of Development

As a cornerstone of United Way's strategy for engaging supporters, the Major Gifts Officer nurtures existing major donor relationships while actively identifying new prospective contributors. As a member of the Development team, this individual will report to the Chief Development Officer and work closely and collaboratively with other members of the organization and external stakeholders to partner with donors who require carefully executed and strategic cultivation, leading to the solicitation of major outright and planned gifts. The Major Gift Officer coordinates the involvement of advancement leadership and staff, program staff, and volunteers in the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of individual donors.
Responsibilities:
- Strategically Cultivate: Portfolio of 100-125 major donor prospects, meeting annual goals for appointments, solicitations, and revenue generation.
- Effectively Utilize: United Way's CRM and wealth screening tools to strategically track and engage donors and prospects.
- Actively Develop: New prospective donor pipelines through effective networking, qualification, and Regional Development Committee volunteer partnerships.
- Thoughtfully Create: Awareness about United Way's place-based work with current and prospective donors.
- Collaboratively Design and Implement: Meaningful experiences for Tocqueville Society members and leverage existing events for donor engagement.
- Appropriately Recognize: Major donors through public and private acknowledgment strategies.
- Consistently Foster: Collaborative relationships with team members through active participation in organizational meetings.

What You'll Need: Education, Experience, and Skills
- Bachelor's degree in social work, human services, business, finance, or impact-related discipline. Advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum of 8-12 years of experience in nonprofit organizations, management, finance, or human services, or similar experience. Major Gift Officer experience preferred.
- A strong command of fundraising principles and a familiarity with the objectives of annual and unrestricted-gift fundraising
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Strong project management skills, with the ability to effectively plan, execute, and oversee multiple initiatives.
- Ability to present information and ideas clearly and persuasively to executive teams, volunteers, and the board of directors.
- Demonstrated success in collaborative work environments, group facilitation, and engaging leadership volunteers.
- Excellent organizational, time management, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Adaptability to change, with the ability to work independently and apply strong problem-solving skills.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
