Reports To: Director Major Gifts & Planned Giving
Exempt Status: Non-Exempt
Work Schedule: Full-Time. Core hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00-4:30 p.m. Must be able to work a flexible schedule, which may include early mornings, evenings, and weekends.
Purpose of Position: The Major Gifts Officer supports donors of United Way of the Capital Region who give $10,000+ annually. They are responsible for major giving engagement, prospect research, giving and designation information, and recognition.
Position Responsibilities
· Solicit current and Prospective Major Gift Donors.
· Manage relationships with major gift ($10,000+ annually) donors and prospects.
· Identify, research and qualify prospective donors.
· Develop and maintain highly customized donor engagement plans and donor files.
· Ensure all major gift donors receive follow-up communications and recognition, including thanks for all gifts.
· Record activities, update donor information and apply all tracking metrics in our database.
· Assist in the development and implementation of an annual major gifts' operations plan.
· Engage with and support major gift donors who volunteer for our United Way.
· Collaborate with other fundraising staff to solicit and engage with major gift donors through their place of employment.
· Collaborate with Communications and Donor Engagement Department to produce materials and tools to communicate regularly with donors and supporters.
· Help plan, promote, and attend all events and functions for donors who are major givers.
Position Requirements
1. Bachelor’s degree required or equivalent combination of education and experience.
2. Three to five years’ experience in non-profit fundraising or equivalent professional experience.
3. Demonstrated effective oral and written communication, public speaking, group training/facilitation, organizational and interpersonal skills.
4. Demonstrated ability to work with and gain the respect of a broad constituency base, including executive levels in business, industry and government, foundation management, service providers and other key community leaders.
5. Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
6. Must maintain access to reliable self-sufficient transportation.

Travel
Travel is primarily local during the business day, although rare some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.
