United Way of the Big Bend (UWBB) is seeking a Grant Writer who will be responsible for managing and expanding the grant funding development efforts that support advancing the United Way of the Big Bend mission.  Primary responsibilities include researching grant opportunities, writing proposals, managing timelines, and ensuring that budget and grant reporting requirements are met.    

 UWBB serves eight counties in the Big Bend area with the mission to raise awareness, mobilize resources and find collaborative, targeted solutions for our community’s most vital concerns.  We lead the communities we serve by engaging and connecting with others who share our commitment to help our neighbors, friends and colleagues who are living in poverty and/or struggling to make ends meet.

Schedule:            Full-time                             Location:             Tallahassee, FL

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with leadership to develop and implement an annual grants strategy to secure new and maintain renewable grant funding
  • Research and identify grant opportunities that align with UWBB’s mission, initiatives and impact programs
  • Conduct the full range of activities required to prepare and submit timely and compelling grant proposals/applications
  • Perform continuous grant oversight, monitoring, reporting and compliance
  • Work with Finance Team to track and report annual grant revenue on a timely basis
  • Assist Finance Team with grant financial reporting as needed for audit inquiries
  • Work closely with Community Impact staff to ensure the collection of relevant outcome data and development and measurement of performance objectives
  • Serve as primary contact for all grantors
  • Coordinate with Communications team to ensure proper recognition of grantors as applicable

Applicants should:

  • Be familiar with grant research techniques, application and management processes
  • Have highly effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Have strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excel at multi-tasking, meeting overlapping deadlines and deliverables
  • Be able to collaborate effectively within and outside of the organization
  • Work well both independently and as a member of team

Education, Experience and Key Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field preferred or equivalent experience  
  • Minimum of two years of experience in grant writing, management and reporting
  • Experience with state and federal grant application and management preferred
  • Knowledge of program evaluation methodologies and outcome measurement practices a plus
  • Experience developing and monitoring budgets a plus
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Access to reliable transportation, proof of insurance, and a valid driver’s license

  • Occasional travel within UWBB neighboring county footprint
  • Work Week:  M-R 8:30 a.m.– 5:30 p.m., F 8:30 am-12:00 pm with some early morning, evening and weekend hours during peak times
  • Physical demands:  Sitting or standing for extended periods of time, bending, occasional lifting, regularly moving throughout the building between floors
  • Regular use of standard office equipment
