POSITION SUMMARY

The Manager, Giving & Engagement (MGE) is responsible for strategically building and maintaining relationships with individual donors to support United Way of Salt Lake (UWSL) and its mission. The MGE will plan and manage engagement activities and stewardship events that inspire philanthropic investment in UWSL. The MGE will manage a portfolio of current, lapsed, and prospective annual giving donors to connect their unique interests, passions, and desired impact with UWSL’s mission. With the Sr. Director of Giving and Engagement, the MGE will facilitate the activities of the giving affinity groups of United Way of Salt Lake, prioritizing the Women United donor network, where members celebrate and support the educational achievement of children and families in our community.


PRIMARY TASK

Build relationships with donors to provide a world class donor experience and contribute reliable and resilient revenue for United Way of Salt Lake.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1.Fundraising (30%): Build relationships with a portion of existing Women United members to renew their membership; and solicit new members to join the Women United affinity group. Managing a dynamic, active portfolio of approximately 150 donors with the capacity to give a four-figure annual gift, with an overall fundraising goal of $250,000 in year one.

  • The MGE will leverage workplace campaigns and other annual giving campaigns while sourcing new, outside donors and connecting all donors to the mission of United Way of Salt Lake.
  • Manage Women United membership engagement tiers and volunteer hours for priority programs.

2.Events (25%): Manage and execute a regular cadence of donor engagements events (quarterly), appreciation initiatives (monthly), and communications throughout the year for all Women United members.

  • Work in partnership with the larger United Way of Salt Lake team to maximize individual donor attendance and participation in donor engagement events and the Power of Your Purse annual fundraising gala, United Way of Salt Lake’s premier fundraising event of the year.

3.Staffing (20%): Operate and staff an Executive Council of Women United Volunteers, and guide the Women United Council in their operations, curating events for members to fundraise and connect to the mission. Support additional Women United committees, helping the committee chairs build agendas, and support the meetings and activities of each committee.

4.Research, Records & Analysis (10%): Research and prepare donor and prospective donor interactions, appropriately and accurately document the stages of those interactions in our CRM database (Salesforce), and analyze reports that show portfolio performance.

5.Qualifying & Cultivating (10%): Assist in qualifying and cultivating donors between the thresholds of $500 and $5,000, priming those households for inclusion in our Alexis de Tocqueville Society and identify potential major gift prospects and forward them to colleagues as appropriate.

6.Perform other activities as assigned (5%)

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES

  • Strong initiative and organizational skills, with impeccable follow-through and dependability.
  • Capable of managing logistics, tracking data, and ensuring smooth execution of engagement events.
  • Ability to relate openly and comfortably with diverse groups of people (including higher-wealth donors); ability to inspire confidence in United Way staff, volunteer leadership, and donors.
  • Deliver multi-mode communications that convey a clear understanding of the unique needs of different audiences (writing, presentation, public speaking, and listening).
  • Adept at conflict resolution through dialogue and open communication; rebounds and adapts when facing setbacks. Owns lane, and respect parameters and dependencies. Collaboration is key.
  • Provide regular updates to the development team on fundraising progress, volunteer participation, and engagement outcomes.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3-5 years of fundraising experience; individual donor development and solicitation experience highly preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, business, or nonprofit management, or equivalent related work experience
  • Knowledge of the local community of potential donors highly preferred
  • Experience facilitating meetings and working with volunteers and external stakeholders
  • Experience planning and executing events
  • Knowledge and experience using any CRM software - Salesforce preferred but not required


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The team member is regularly required to communicate clearly, in oral and written formats, with others in person, over the phone and via other devices. The team member must be able to transcribe, read extensively, prepare and analyze data and figures, constantly operate a computer and other standard office machinery. The team member is required to regularly travel to offsite locations to set up presentations and display physical and electronic forms. The team member must have the ability to lift, carry, push and/or pull objects weighing up to 50lbs.


COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

The position is a full-time, exempt position with full benefits. $55,000-65,000. Salary commensurate with experience. UWSL/UP provides a wide range of benefits, including:
