Position Summary

United Way of Central Indiana recognizes that the key to success is a strong and cohesive team that works through shared values to achieve our mission. The Volunteerism Headquarters Pilot Executive Director serves as the leader of the pilot initiative and ambassador for volunteerism across the Indianapolis area. The Executive Director is responsible for building, piloting and managing a centralized hub that connects volunteers with non-profit organizations of all sub-sectors, thereby fostering a community-wide culture of engagement and social responsibility. This role will play a pivotal role in shaping and leading the region's volunteerism landscape.

This is a grant funded pilot position.

Position Duties & Responsibilities

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed. They are not intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties and skills required of personnel so classified.

  • Visionary Leadership: Articulate a clear and compelling vision based on the grant agreement for the Volunteerism Headquarters pilot that inspires team members and external stakeholders. Recruit and manage a team of three direct reports. Encourage innovation and experiment with new ideas, technologies and approaches to achieve the mission and vision of the pilot.
  • Volunteer Management: Plan, arrange, and manage advisory committee meetings. Foster continuous, two-way communication with committee leadership between meetings.
  • Operational Oversight: Oversee the development of a comprehensive platform that serves as a one-stop-shop for individuals and organizations seeking volunteer opportunities and resources. Oversee the day-to-day operations of the pilot Volunteerism Headquarters, ensuring efficient and effective service delivery. Manage financial resources, and strategies to sustain and grow the organization. Compile written and oral reports for UWCI leadership and the advisory committee about the progress of the pilot.
  • Impact Assessment: Monitor and evaluate the impact of volunteerism efforts, using data-driven insights to enhance programmatic outcomes and community engagement.
  • Community and Partner Engagement: Act as the face of volunteerism in Indianapolis, promoting awareness and participation in volunteer activities. Forge partnerships with key community stakeholders to enhance volunteerism efforts and expand outreach efforts.
  • Advocacy and Representation: Advocate for volunteerism initiatives locally, represent the pilot Volunteerism Headquarters in public forums, events and media engagements.
  • Volunteer Recruitment: Act as the trusted recruiter for organizations across various sub-sectors, identify and enhance existing volunteer prospecting efforts.

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Non-profit Management, Public Administration, or related field required. Master's degree preferred.
  • Proven experience in nonprofit leadership, with at least 5 years in a senior management role preferred.
  • Strong understanding of volunteer management principles and practices required.
  • Experience with Hands on connect, Salesforce database or other similar volunteer management and CRM systems is preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage and inspire diverse stakeholders.
  • Strategic thinker with a track record of successful partnership development and community engagement.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage budgets and implement operational strategies.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in all aspects of volunteerism and organizational culture.

Position Leads: Volunteer Opportunity Curator and two contracted positions (Volunteer Recruitment role and Marketing role).

FLSA Status:   Exempt

Salary Range: Low $100s
