POSITION SUMMARY
WellPartners, located in Columbia South Carolina, offers free dental and vision health services that provide preventive and restorative dental and vision care to uninsured children and adults in the Midlands. WellPartners currently operates as an LLC owned by United Way of the Midlands (UWM) with a budget of $1.5 million annually.
We believe everyone deserves high quality healthcare. The standards of care and environment of WellPartners are comparable, or higher, than private practices. We utilize state of the art technology and credentialed clinic staff to ensure the quality of the care we provide. Our patients typically have complex, often undiagnosed, underlying conditions, and struggle with day-to-day challenges of poverty. We seek to not only ensure WellPartners can meet the complex needs of our patients but seek to grow our services in the coming years and address social determinants of health to improve overall quality of life. WellPartners is launching an exciting new journey through this expansion, and we are seeking a candidate that will embrace and advance our vision.
WellPartners is seeking its first Executive Director. WellPartners currently operates as an LLC owned by UWM but seeks to transition into a standalone non-profit over the next year. We are seeking an individual to lead this journey and grow the capacity of the clinics to serve more people in need. The candidate will lead a strong team of clinic professionals and volunteers. During the transition, oversight will be provided by an Advisory Council that works in collaboration with the Board of Directors of UWM. The Executive Director will work to build the current Advisory Council into a vibrant, high functioning Board of Directors. This position reports to the UWM Vice President of Community Impact.
The position is in-office at our Columbia, South Carolina location. Columbia, the capital city of South Carolina, is known for its rich history and vibrant culture. It is in the central part of the state and serves as the political, cultural, and economic hub. The city is home to the University of South Carolina, a major research university, two HBCUs and other colleges. Columbia's cultural scene is diverse, with numerous museums, art galleries, theaters, and music venues. Additionally, Columbia offers a wide range of dining options, reflecting the region's culinary diversity. The city's economy is diverse, with sectors like healthcare, education, manufacturing, and military playing significant roles. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Vision and Strategic Planning (Approximately 25% of time)
- Board recruitment and development to promote high functioning fundraising, governance, and operations.
- Establish the organization, grow, and lead the staff, and expand organizational capacity to support future growth.
- Develop and implement the long-range strategic plan for WellPartners.
Fundraising (Approximately 50% of time)
- Develop and implement a multi-year strategic plan for philanthropic advancement with measurable outcomes.
- Grant development and oversee management of current and new opportunities.
- Create and execute a strategic fundraising plan that includes an annual development plan.
- Maintain and enhance relationships with local and state leaders and other officials.
- Proactively seek new and diversified philanthropic support.
- Build and maintain a personal portfolio of prospects and donors.
- Direct all fundraising responsibilities including pipeline development, prospect tracking, strategy, and task assignment.
- Design and produce fundraising materials and collateral.
- Serve as the primary spokesperson, representative, and ambassador of WellPartners.
- Ensure compliance with all legal and ethical issues related to fundraising.
Operations & Programs (Approximately 25% of time)
- Oversee attainment of organizational goals, clinic production goals, and adherence to policies, and operating procedures.
- Oversee annual budget for organization.
- Oversee effective and efficient support systems for WellPartners. Such systems include information technology services, training, procurement, personnel, and appropriate databases.
- Oversee research, planning and evaluation of programs delivered by WellPartners.
- Develop and expand community partnerships.
- Represent WellPartners before community groups, local and state committees, conferences, annual meetings, and others settings to foster understanding of the organization’s mission.
- Promote diversity and a sincere commitment to collaboration and inclusion.
- Foster continued education and support for volunteers and staff.
REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree required, Advance degree preferred in management, business/public administration, policy, public health, or related field.
- Minimum of 3 – 5 years of substantial senior level experience, including fundraising, strategic planning, organizational growth and development, staff management, and external relations skills, preferably in hospitals or health care setting.
- Demonstrated supervisory experience as a manager or director in a non-profit setting.
- Proven ability to work effectively with underrepresented communities including communities of color, low-income populations, youth, women, women of color and/or rural populations.
- Experience working collaboratively and transparently with a Board of Directors or similar volunteer leadership group (with an emphasis on strategic planning and organizational growth).
- Experience with the implementation of comprehensive fundraising plans with evidence of effectiveness in marketing, solicitation of donors, and key performance indicators.
- Experience with direct solicitation, annual giving, major gifts, or capital campaigns.
- Previous financial oversight and budget management responsibility for an organization of comparable size and complexity.

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; writing samples may be requested.

- Knowledge of public relations and marketing techniques.
- Knowledge of generally accepted principles of non-profit financial management.
- Superior interpersonal skills with track record of developing and sustaining strong benefactor relationships with organizations and individuals.
- Demonstrated responsibility in maintaining strict confidence as it relates to donor relationships as well as the privacy of patients and families.
- Knowledge of board governance and skill in cultivating board engagement.
- Knowledge of database management and software used in fundraising.
