Title: Early Childhood Impact Coordinator

Reports to: Director of Education Initiatives

United Way of Northern Utah Mission: We Unite people and organizations to build healthy, stable and well-educated communities where individuals, families, and neighborhoods thrive.

Goal: United Way of Northern Utah is seeking an Impact Coordinator to support the Early Childhood Network and provide leadership on efforts to create local child development systems to benefit the most vulnerable families with young children (prenatal to 5 years old). This position will support the development and implementation of community level strategies including the Community School Initiative and Cradle to Career framework; related to policy, community education, and community collaboration to ensure all Ogden children are developmentally and socially-emotionally healthy and enter the school system ready to learn.

Summary of Work: The Impact Coordinator’s core function is to facilitate impactful partnerships that are capable of community level change, meaning develop solutions with community partners that improve the lives of large numbers of people, rather than focusing on a single program. This requires a unique individual who thinks in terms of systems and has the adaptive skill set to work across sectors and political perspectives. Competencies such as results-based facilitation, systems thinking, project managment, continuous improvement, and adaptive leadership are key for this role. Facilitating collaborative, community level outcomes is not for everyone. We seek a capable, energetic, results-focused team member who is comfortable with ambiguity and ready to take this work to the next level.

Key Responsibilities

Backbone Facilitation

  • Serve as the ‘backbone staff’ of the Early Childhood network and workgroups, build on the excellent work that has been done to date by ensuring newly launched strategies are well aligned, monitored for impact, and build involvement from early childhood partners.

  • Ensure the Network and its workgroups develop shared accountability to community level outcomes and measure impact both at the program level and the community level.

Strategy Development and Implementation

  • Create shared goals and visions with partners which advance both organization's missions of advancing early childhood access and quality
  • Work alongside research and evaluation partners to develop and implement data-driven processes and systems to inform the work.

Project Management

  • Follow-up regularly with partners to ensure actions are completed on key initiatives and they are advancing.
  • Create and use process maps, flowcharts, logic models and/or other tools to ensure effective and efficient execution of the strategies/interventions developed and communicate the work to broader stakeholder groups.
  • Create measurable and specific performance measures which hold projects accountable to the larger goal of influencing kindergarten readiness.

Other Duties

  • Remain apprised of statewide efforts through Early Childhood Utah Advisory Council and its subcommittees.
  • Attend and participate in other local, regional, and state level meetings as requested.
  • Advocate for early childhood education policies and issues at the state and local level with our political leadership.
  • Actively participate in work related to grant writing, fundraising, and sustainability of the initiative with corporate, foundation, and government representatives, as well as individual donors.

Required Competencies:

  • Team Player: Works well with others to achieve a shared goal, while also contributing to the team's success.
  • Collaborative: Understand the roles and contributions of all community sectors and community partners, and mobilize resources (financial and human) through meaningful engagement.
