Donor Relations Manager

Overall Purpose of this Role:
This relationship-focused servant leader helps to support resource development and fundraising strategies on the Virginia Peninsula. This position oversees the United Way of the Virginia Peninsula volunteerism efforts, affinity programs, and donor relationships.
As the community fundraiser, funds raised by UWVP are mobilized and leveraged to support direct-service nonprofit organizations, build and support collaborative solutions, and to ensure that households in our community can access assistance for basic needs and long-term supports. The Donor Relations Manager has a critical role in creating unforgettable experiences that resonate with our donors and volunteers, driving meaningful change.
Volunteerism
• Leads United Way’s annual Day of Caring volunteer event alongside volunteer committees, sponsors, and other staff
• Works to connect individuals and groups to volunteer projects available on the Virginia Peninsula
• Manages and promotes Volunteer Peninsula, an online volunteer engagement platform
• Assists local nonprofit organizations in posting projects and recruiting volunteers
• Support UWVP outreach efforts associated with workplace campaigns and community impact in order to mobilize volunteers
• Build and uphold organization-wide best practices for volunteer management and retention
Donor Retention
• Build, manage, and grow a portfolio of donor accounts for the purpose of stewarding and cultivating new and ongoing relationships
• Lead the charge for transformative engagement by developing and executing innovative strategies that foster a sense of belonging and purpose within our diverse donor communities
• Unleash your creativity to develop and craft impactful experiences that go beyond mere recognition, but that educate, inspire, and forge lasting connections. Every touchpoint is an opportunity to showcase gratitude, impact, and the power of collective giving
• Support and leverage workplace campaigns and other resource development strategies to provide continual donor communications and engagement
Affinity Programs
• Harness the power of donor communities to increase giving and amplify their impact in our community
o Emerging Leaders Society (ELS): A group of passionate, like-minded, community-focused professionals under the age of 40 who serve our neighbors in need and develop as active advocate leaders for change
o Women United (WU): Women United harnesses the power of women to improve the quality of life for women and children on the Virginia Peninsula
• Facilitate affinity group programming that provides opportunities for volunteerism, networking, and enrichment
• Maintain and grow peer-to-peer fundraising initiatives that are founded in connectedness and impact
• Develop new Affinity groups similar to ELS and WU based on research, discussions with donors, and network-wide innovations

Qualifications and Experience:
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in nonprofit fundraising or related role
• Undergraduate degree in Business Administration, Human Services, or related field
• Experience working with volunteers. Preferred professional/leadership experience in the nonprofit sector
• Or, a comparable combination of education and work experience
• Technical proficiencies in Microsoft Office Suite, internet search engines as an end user, and social media platforms
• Ability to be up and moving around for long periods of time, up to 8+ hours a day for events and independently complete event set up that may require moving up to 30 pounds
• Valid driver’s license, automobile insurance, and reliable transportation
This position works in-office and in the community. Remote and hybrid options are not available.
