The Disaster Recovery Volunteer Manager is part of the Community Engagement team and works closely with internal UWABC teams, and community partners related to disaster recovery. The Disaster Recovery Volunteer Manager should enjoy volunteer and project management, balancing relationship-building with managing details and collaborating internally and externally while holding true to UWABC’s long-term strategic vision.

Position responsible for the management and implementation of various disaster-related volunteer engagement projects that support United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County community goals and support Buncombe County’s Long-Term Recovery Group (LTRG) efforts.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Long-term Recovery Group (LTRG) Volunteer Work
● Support the Long-Term Recovery Group (LTRG) volunteer work, ensuring alignment with recovery
efforts, community needs, and UWABC goals.
● Support the chair of the LTRG volunteer committee.
● Integrate Hands On Asheville-Buncombe website/database best practices into LTRG volunteer
engagement practices.
● Collaborate with LTRG partners, nonprofit organizations, and community leaders to identify and
coordinate meaningful volunteer opportunities.
● Work closely with other LTRG committees and response teams to integrate volunteer efforts into
the broader recovery strategy.
● Monitor and evaluate volunteer participation and impact, providing regular reports to the Director,
LTRG leadership, stakeholders and UWABC staff.
● Support disaster-related volunteer recruitment and stewardship efforts aligned with UWABC’s
volunteer engagement strategy.
● Together with other Volunteer Engagement team members and LTRG partners, support volunteer
recruitment, presentations, training, and retention strategies to attract and retain individuals and
groups aligned with disaster recovery and resilience initiatives.

Develop and implement Volunteer Corps and other disaster-related volunteer engagement efforts
● Collaborate with internal team members to design and develop the framework for a sustainable Volunteer Corps program.
● Create tools, resources, and processes to enhance the program’s implementation and long-term success.
● Focus on building internal capacity to ensure the program aligns with organizational priorities and
community needs.
● Project management and planning for any other disaster-related service projects developed by the organization.
● Coordinate portable/remote volunteer projects related to disaster recovery; including We Care
Experiences.
● Effectively communicate position requirements, onboarding and training processes, and scheduling considerations to volunteers and internal/external volunteer supervisors.In conjunction with Volunteer Engagement staff members, coordinate disaster-related volunteer
appreciation events, recognition programs, and ongoing stewardship activities to acknowledge the
contributions of volunteers and cultivate a sense of belonging and satisfaction.
● Deliver volunteer experiences that are embedded with inclusion considerations and strategies in
all aspects of volunteerism, with emphasis on youth, diverse, and community-based audiences.
● Coordinate with community partners to establish project sites for National Civilian Community
Corp (NCCC) teams and ensure alignment with local priorities.
● Secure housing and logistical support for the NCCC teams.
● Prepare tools, materials, and schedules to ensure a productive and seamless service experience
for NCCC members.
● Interim supervision of National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC) members.

Data Integrity and Get Connected Platform
● Ensure data entry of disaster-related volunteer projects occurs according to established processes and protocols.
● Work with Volunteer Database Manager to ensure data integrity, maintenance, and custom pages are updated on a regular basis.

Support internal and community partners with volunteer engagement best practices
● Advocate for best practices in volunteer management within disaster recovery efforts, ensuring
compliance with safety and ethical standards.
● Stay informed about industry trends, best practices, and innovative approaches in volunteer management
and disaster response, and apply relevant insights to enhance volunteer engagement strategies.

Minimum Requirements
● Bachelor’s degree in social services, nonprofit management, communications, or related fields and 2 years of experience in volunteer coordination, marketing, fundraising, or similar fields or equivalent
experience
● 1 year or more of experience in supervising volunteers
● Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
● Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends as needed
● Effective interpersonal and communication skills in English (verbal and written)
● Valid driver’s license with a driving record that meets insurance requirements and access to reliable transportation
● Commitment to the mission and guiding principles of UWABC and the ability to model those principles


Technical Skills, Abilities, and other Requirements
● Proficient with software, including Google Suite, Microsoft Office, Zoom (or similar programs)
● Ability to learn and use a variety of other platforms (e.g. Airtable, Asana, Get Connected)
● Previous public speaking experience
● Previous data management experience
● Ability to work and build relationships with diverse staff, volunteers, community members, governments, philanthropic organizations, donors, community partners, and corporate partners
● Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts,s and draw conclusions
● Experience managing a variety of projects simultaneously
● Ability to work independently and in teams
● Ability to manage sensitive situations with tact, professionalism, and diplomacy

● Ability to balance priorities to accomplish assigned tasks within the required time frame, and be able to shift quickly between several tasks without loss of continuity
● Holds self and other team members accountable for achieving results
● Effective problem-solver with strong initiative

Nice to Have
● Bilingual - English/Spanish
● Prior experience with project management software
● Prior experience working with AmeriCorps members or similar groups

This position is exempt from overtime regulations. Hybrid work environment: a mix of office, remote, and community settings. As part of our hybrid work policy, new employees are required to work from the UWABC office a minimum of 3 days per week for the first 90 days and then, the schedule can be modified based upon conversation with the supervisor.

Reports To: Volunteer Engagement Director
Supervises: AmeriCorps members or volunteers
Hours: 40/week.
Salary and Benefits: $45,900 to $51,070 plus full benefits, including: paid vacation, sick and personal leave; employer contributions to 401(k), contributions to health, dental and vision insurance benefits, life and disability insurance, employee assistance program, lifestyle spending account, and coaching and support.
