POSITION SUMMARY (Hybrid, 3 days in office - Alexandria, VA)

The Director, Social Media is a member of the United Way Worldwide (UWW) Communications team and develops and oversees implementation of a comprehensive social media strategy to drive channel growth and community engagement, to help build support for United Way locally, nationally and internationally.  

Reporting to the Senior Director of Digital Marketing, this person will partner with cross-functional teams including global brand marketing, public relations, communications, events, development and advancement to help drive UWW's mission to improve lives by mobilizing the caring power of communities around the world.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL DUTIES OF POSITION

An individual must be collaborative and able to perform each essential duty listed below at a satisfactory level: 

  • Responsible for developing, executing and measuring the organizational social media strategy to grow UWW's online presence, and strengthen brand position and audience engagement 
  • Develop a consistent and authentic brand voice across all social media channels 
  • Develop a variety of social campaigns in support of brand partnerships, fundraising and overall brand positioning.
  • Coach and develop direct reports, ensuring appropriate division of work and ongoing coverage across all responsibilities within scope
  • Create compelling content (both written and visual) for a variety of social channels and art direct photography, graphics and video 
  • Responsible for setting goals, measuring performance and translating insights to optimize strategy.
  • In partnership with Marketing and Communications leadership, support and aid in the execution of the paid social strategy 
  • Develop the social content calendar and manage organic content on all UWW social channels
  • Responsible for social media listening for social media channels and optimize opportunities to increase audience
  • Manage external agency/vendor partnerships
  • Lead and optimize all processes related to social media (listening, community management, content creation, publishing, and performance reporting)
  • Other duties as assigned

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Minimum requirements include: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, or related field required and at least 10 years of experience in content creation and social media 
  • Proven experience in developing, executing and measuring organizational social media strategy
  • In-depth knowledge of social platforms and ability to recognize and leverage emerging trends and platforms.  
  • Strong experience with social listening and community management tools
  • Understanding of SEO optimization practices
  • Experience managing communities and responding to inbound comments/messages in a timely manner
  • Experience in managing and developing direct reports
  • Strong cultural competencies and ability to effectively communicate to a diverse, global audience
  • Solution-oriented, strategic thinker and communicator 
  • Relationship builder and collaborator 
  • Experience with digital fundraising is a plus 
  • Experience with a global nonprofit is a plus

SALARY INFORMATION 

We have established a salary range of $115,000 to $125,000 for this position. Specific pay is determined by your experience in that range.  Highly recommend applicants include salary requirements when completing application.
