POSITION SUMMARY (Hybrid, 3 days in office - Alexandria, VA)

The Director of Network Performance is an exciting opportunity to join the United Way Worldwide team in a pivotal and highly collaborative role in preparing and equipping United Way staff and board volunteers to (1) address crucial and evolving community needs; (2) lead local United Ways in their next era of impact, relevance, and sustainability; and (3) advance the transformation of United Way’s global Network.               

The Director will collaborate closely with United Way Worldwide and Network colleagues to use performance management to advance organizational imperatives, including the Network’s strategic and cultural transformation; revenue diversification; impact and equity agendas; the Thriving United Way initiative; enhanced Network engagement; best-practice and knowledge sharing; and building a high-impact, interconnected global Network.

Guided by the Thriving United Way performance framework, the Director leads performance management and improvement efforts across the Network. The Director will provide key operational and thought leadership, which is supported by data-informed insights, to implement high-value Network performance monitoring and assessment, growth opportunity identification, provision of training and coaching, and distillation of key performance learnings to inform the advancement of the Network as a whole. 

The successful candidate will be hands-on, strategic, and improvement-oriented leader who will bring exceptional skills and relevant experience in performance assessment and management, training and coaching, dispute resolution, collaboration, communication, and relationship building. The individual must be able to excel in a global, federated work environment, and bring strong cross-cultural acumen to engage effectively with colleagues and partners around the world. 

Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Strategic Insights, the Director is a member of the Global Network Advancement Team, which is charged with stewarding the success of 1,100 local United Ways across 36 countries through learning and development, impact strategies, research and insights, and coaching to ensure that every United Way is best able to meet the needs of the local communities it serves. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the local United Way self-assessment process, including analysis of and identification of growth opportunities in partnership with Network Engagement, Research & Insights, and IT colleagues.
  • Lead the implementation and compliance processes for local United Ways to meet United Way Worldwide membership requirements, including monitoring local United Way compliance and advising on compliance matters, working to bring organizations into compliance. 
  • Manage the annual membership renewal process for local United Ways. 
  • Participate in dispute resolution among local United Ways and among local United Ways and United Way Worldwide. 
  • Curate, create, and/or identify content for local United Way performance management webinars and toolkits. 
  • Lead proactive strategy development and prioritization around strategic partnerships among United Ways, specifically focused on mergers and back-office consolidations. 
  • Supervise management of local United Way membership records in Salesforce and GiftLink database. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Minimum requirements for the role include:

  • Bachelor’s degree (advanced degree is preferred).
  • Minimum of five years of progressive experience in a similar role. Additionally, this position requires three years of experience in a leadership role. 
  • Demonstrated success in deploying skills in political astuteness, dispute resolution, and diplomacy. 
  • Skilled in project and information management. 
  • Adept at research and analysis, including the ability to review, synthesize, and present information and findings. 
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and success working across teams with quickly changing priorities. 
  • Demonstrated mastery of Microsoft Office tools with experience in Smartsheet and Salesforce preferred.

SALARY STATEMENT

The budgeted lifespan salary range for this position is currently $ 110,000 to $ 120,000 per year.  Salary is determined by several factors including applicant’s knowledge, ­­­skills, experience, position, equity, and market.
