We are seeking a passionate and proven fundraiser who wants to maximize their impact in McHenry County. The mission of the United Way of Greater McHenry County is to mobilize the caring power of community so that all can thrive. Our key areas of focus are youth opportunity, health, community resilience, senior care, and financial well-being.

The Director of Development plays a key role in our mission and vision by raising funds that enable us to maximize our reach and impact in McHenry County through our own programs and through grants we award to our non-profit partners.

The core responsibility of the role is to maximize donation generation and retention by developing and maintaining relationships with donors, foundations, corporations, and others. The Director of Development is responsible for diversifying our donor base by recruiting new funding sources and growing and retaining existing funding sources. This will include a combination of employee giving campaigns, individual appeals, marketing, collaborations, corporate sponsorships, grants, philanthropic partnerships, community involvement, and fundraising events.

This position requires an entrepreneurial professional who will thrive in an outcome-driven, dynamic, and flexible environment. This position requires experience in fundraising, as well as building and nurturing relationships. The Director of Development must be a sophisticated communicator who can confidently interact with stakeholders and individuals in various positions, from foundation board members to corporate CEOs to small business owners and individuals interested in planned giving or legacy gift donations.

The ideal candidate will be an upbeat, reliable, and skilled team player who is willing and able to pitch in however needed to assist in daily operations, represent our brand, and maximize our success. The individual will need to be a compelling partner to our donors and able to tell our story and inspire action in one-on-one, large group presentation, written, and social media settings. Timely follow through and integrity are paramount, as are strong written and verbal communication skills. Most of all, a commitment to the mission of United Way of Greater McHenry County and the passion to serve others through philanthropy is essential.
